Awesome August's NSD Challenge!

Options
This challenge is about setting yourself a weekly/monthly target of how many No Spend Days you would like to achieve during August. To join, just post your personal target and you are on your way!

Tips for the challenge:
1. Decide on a clear goal weekly or monthly of how many No Spend days you'd like to try and achieve. If you've never done the challenge before, it's probably better to start with a goal of 10 or (at most) 15.
2. It is fine to exclude necessary expenses eg petrol, groceries, pet food, etc, when it comes to deciding what is and isn't an NSD. It is also completely fine to exclude automated or recurring payments such as bills, mortgage or direct debits.
3. It does help to post every time you notch up an NSD, or at least every two or three days ... it's easy to lose track! If you want to keep track of your NSDs in your MSE signature, that can be really motivating too image
4. It also helps to bookmark the thread, it's much easier to find image
5. NSDs are trickier than they seem and easily derailed. It makes the challenge much easier if you notch up as many as you can in the first half of the month.

Just in case anyone is following these threads and deliberating whether to join or not, you should definitely give it a go.

I heard about NSDs years ago, but never tried it until a couple of months ago. I always thought I was good at budgeting and believed that doing NSDs would just mean I did the same purchases, but all piled into fewer days. It is not the case...

Firstly it makes you think twice about spontaneous unplanned purchases. After they go on my mental list I often decide there is an alternative or I just don't want them anymore come the next day or two. It is also eye opening how many times in a month you actually get your money out - it is always more than you think!

Although I'm not in debt, joining this challenge has helped me work towards my money goals quicker, made me more aware of what I am actually buying and helping me reduce my carbon footprint (which is important to me).

So give it a go 😊. And thanks to @cathybird for doing a sterling job of keeping track 👏
QueenJess, what a really great thing to say!! All true, it's just not usually spelt out so clearly! :):)

Declaring early for NSD 1 today please. I will probably get fuel today, but that is in the budget and accounted for so doesn’t count in my personal NSD challenge. I agree with @QueenJess, this is such a useful friendly way to keep track…and declaring early really keeps me focused ⭐️
