If there's a bit of water in the fuel it gets trapped in the filter housing and the sensor in the bottom of the filter housing detects it and causes the light.

The filter can be drained by unscrewing the electrical connector/bung under the filter housing.

The fuel will need to be primed again otherwise it won't run. (I seem to think there's a manual primer pump on them somewhere)

You can change the filter without drianing the housing, but the water will still be in the bottom.

Quite often owners get it wrong and just change the filter without draining the fuel from the housing as the filter is accessible from above, but the drain is from below. So quite often the problem reoccurs soon after and it's been know that some owners have been sold new housing and sensors to fix the problem, when all it needed was a drain, prime and perhaps new filter.

The image suggests a coolant leak but couldn't find anything in the Honda Civic diesel manual.
cpbackhouse has already said its on page 115.

But that's for a Honda Civic Type R, not a diesel.

Yes, sorry. I started typing my post about 2 hours before I finished it. Got distracted by a phone call, then an online meeting, then another phone call......

Genie got fed up with unreasonable demands and has given up.  Often accompanied by a thumbs down symbol.

I called my local Honda dealership and they said £88 for a diagnostic check and then another charge £ to repair and I was like no thanks! I'm going to go and see a friend at a local mechanic who says he can repair for me....
