The whole point of video streaming was to provide better service and value for money - Maybe these corporations take people to be gullible to charge whatever they want!!

Amazon do this all the time - seasons 1 to whatever are free, with the latest 1 or 2 seasons available to buy or rent at a ridiculous rate. You just have to be patient and wait for it to become a free season, or buy on dvd. If you have Virgin, you can set it to series record on any channel and you eventually get all episodes. I'm currently waiting for s17 episode 9 or 10 to appear from somewhere.

Not sure where you got that idea from.
The businesses that provide the service are there to make a profit, so will charge as much as they figure the market can take.

This has nothing to do with Prime.
You can rent shows without it.

But the same question could be asked as to why the DVD or Blu Ray is more expensive or cheaper elsewhere.

If it helps the Streaming price for season 16 of NCIS is the same on Apple TV, £5976 HD or £45.36 on SD. But that is to BUY not rent.
It seems there is no discount for buying the season, its £1.89 an episode, so £45.36 for 24 episodes.
The price is probably therefore set by CBS or whoever the UK distributor is.

I don't think anyone will be watching it in HD if they have to pay almost six thousands pounds!  :o  ;)
