How did you get informed that they have refused to switch?
A text which said "We've received a request to switch your current account. We're sorry, but due to high demand we've had to cancel your request. We'll be in touch as soon as we can, to let you know when to make a new switch request. In the meantime, please continue to use your Tesco Bank Current Account as normal. Apologies for this short delay. Thanks."

Yes, thats exactly the same text message as mine.

Have you had a response from your new bank yet please?
Surely as we have requested a switch with the new bank they are responsible?

No nothing yet. And the bank I'm switching to only initiate switches over the phone, so I had to listen for ages while the switching spiel was read out to me. I hope I don't have to go through that again.

Fired off a complaint to Tesco today on the basis that since they announced the closure of their accounts they should have been geared up to deal with the entirely predictable consequences of their announcement.

I've just received a text from Tesco warning me my account is about to go into unarranged overdraft, and I ought to pay some money into it.

No, its balance was reduced to 0 yesterday, and there aren't any pending or upcoming transactions.

Does the app allow closing savings account?
  • I also had a switch cancelled, but my notification was from Halifax via text asking me to call them. Halifax said it was due to Tesco cancelling due to high demand and so they have put through the request again to complete on the 20th, instead of the original date the 13th. I have had nothing from Tesco.

I just left enough in our current account to pay both of the Tesco credit cards this month, and emptied our savings account. I'm calling it quits, can't be bothered opening another account and can't be bothered trying to close savings account or credit cards.
When the cards are paid I'll delete the app and forget all about Tesco.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
