Transfer Share Incentive Plan (SIP) to spouse ISA

I've a Share Incentive Plan (SIP) which has recently matured/vested.  The shares are held in my name.  AFAIK I have 90 days from maturity date to move these SIP shares directly into an S&S ISA, avoiding any CGT liability or other taxes.  However I don't have enough remaining allowance in my own S&S ISA to do this and am considering moving to my wife's S&S ISA instead.  From what I've read, the only way this would be possible is to gift the shares to my wife (into her own dealing account) and have her do a Bed and ISA - which may  trigger CGT liability.  Does that seem correct or does anyone know of another workaround?

You are correct you could transfer some or all of the shares to your wife but that she would not be able to transfer them directly into her ISA under the 90 day process as it was not her SIP. Are the CGT and dividends likely to be high enough that you would be likely to pay tax on them in the short term?
Do you intend to hold them for the long term or would you be better selling them (even if you need to spread the sale to use multiple tax years of allowance if the capital gain is significant) to make a more diversified investment that is aligned to your circumstances and objectives?
  • Thanks Alexland for clarifying.  Unfortunately I didn't plan ahead well enough and my wife's CGT allowance for this year has/will have been used up elsewhere.  I expect we'll look so sell over multiple years to diversify her portfolio.
