EDF Nightmare

I got diverted to EDF when Green Network Energy went bust at the end of January. Since then it has a nightmare and I wondered if anyone else had experienced the same thing and what you have done about it or if anyone has any advice.
First off it took them about three and a half months to get me set up on the EDF system which I tolerated because I understood they had a lot of people to move over but I didn't like not being able to give readings and having no real idea of my consumption.
Once I was finally set up on the system they weren't ready to take a meter reading from me until July. I finally put in a meter reading and it got rejected because EDF had been working on estimated readings which were well out.
I then rang EDF up and sent the customer service operative pictures of my meter readings over email while I was on the phone. He advised that they would come back to me within four days. Eight days later I have heard nothing so I ring again and the notes on my account don't really tally with the first phone call so I am going round in circles after wasting eight days.
I have been given a huge bill, based on the estimated readings, which I am certain is wrong, but I have no confidence in EDF to get this sorted for me without me having to waste a lot of time and effort chasing them. I also don't fancy them to fix it quickly judging by the experience I have had so far.
Is it supposed to be this difficult? I'm paying £55 for gas and electric through EDF and can't see a better deal on the Cheap Energy Club but I'd love to transfer away to a better provider where I can keep track of my use and enter regular readings.
Any advice or help would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

- usually with us it was following a notification of an unexplainable rise in the monthly DD. A quick call verified they were happy to leave it as it was.
I think I also recall that simply submitting a new meter reading would generate a new bill.
So if you have provided a meter reading, this should generate a new bill that will correct an previous bills based on estimated readings.
If all else fails, follow the supplier's complaint procedure. But I have never done that in the case of EDF, as I said, all my issues with them were rapidly resolved via a quick phone call.
- but this was quite a few years back as I said. Things may have changed since then.
Btw, when does your special GNE/EDF tariff end.? I think I recall someone on here saying their's ended in September.

I believe the tariff ends in September. I am trying to get things in order with EDF with a view to moving on when the tariff changes.
I have had no luck getting hold of anyone reliable or helpful on the phone at EDF so far. That is on the 0333 200 1500 general enquiries number.0 -
All the phone numbers you could possibly need for EDF https://www.edfenergy.com/for-home/help-support/contact-us
If the person is unable to assist you, then I suggest you follow the EDF complaint procedure

@MichaelWade The GNE/Edf has been a saga and Edf has not come well out of it. But hardly a nightmare. I've never felt the need to contact Edf - just patiently waited.
I think you are in a minority of customers who have been asked for meter readings and got a bill/ statement. My transfer was complete in early April and Edf confirmed the tariff and DD details - I subsequently got a GNE final bill but other than a notification of a change of DD (downwards) I have heard nothing. I'm not expecting a statement until September
I kept my GNE DD going and gave them meter reads until such time as the website was closed. Since the Edf account was opened I have been giving them meter reads - although they don't ask for them. The account is showing my DD's but sadly it doesn't show the meter reads.
I keep my own records and I am reckoning on being slightly in credit when the Edf fix comes to an end - then my options will be open,Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill2 -
If you are only paying £55 a month for gas and electric you are massively underpaying.
I am with edf on their cheapest and best tarriff and pay £100 a month , based on last 12 months consumption of £1200.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

What is your actual annual consumption please in kWh (not £'s) ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

That combined with the fact@Robin9 says his DD went down following the switch to EDF (although EDF monthly payments were all over the place when we were supplied by them may years back - we kept them under control by constantly objecting to any revision they proposed to which they always agreed), and the fact no one on the GNE/EDF tariff seems in no immediate desire to get off it, suggests its rather good value.
But we now pay a combined rate of about £55 a month for our gas & electric. Gas was fixed last February (so would cost more now) and electric has just been fixed (so todays prices). We are not massively underpaying as our end of term final bills usually show a very small credit.

I'm in no rush to jump away from Edf on the Welcome 5 GNE tariff. - Electricity unit rate: 12.93p per kWh; Daily standing charge: 20.37p per day
I'm expecting a bit of a shock come September.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
McKneff said:If you are only paying £55 a month for gas and electric you are massively underpaying. That's simply not true. It will depend on the OP's usage.I was with GNE, now EDF, for both gas and electricity. I'm paying £56.month AND I'm tracking my consumption monthly and it mostly tallies. You can see my bill in the main "GNE to EDF" thread on lage 50-ish.N. Hampshire, he/him. Just wait until they give you a smart meter that won't phone home. And I had to forfeit a day's annual leave for that too.
