Under the Consumer Rights Act, if the retailer doesn't want to help you, then you have to produce an independent report to show that the television had a latent defect at the time it was sold to you.

    That's quite tricky for something that's 5 1/2 years.

The report doesn't have to show the TV had a defect at the time it was sold, it has to show the goods did not conform to the contract at the point of delivery.

If the report shows the TV has failed due to a component expiring rather than through misuse or damage then the question becomes has the unit lasted a reasonable amount of time to comply with the requirement to be durable.

If the OP paid £300 then regardless the refund is likely to be so small it's not worth the aggravation of getting the report and arguing with the retailer.

If they purchased something like this:

    https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertainment/televisions/televisions/lg-75nano916pa-75-smart-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-led-tv-sn7y-3-1-2-wireless-sound-bar-bundle-10223916-pdt.html

Then even a 5% refund would be worth chasing.

Stop knocking LG. My 47" LG is just coming up to 9 yrs old, and for the past 5 years has been used as a pc monitor, linked to a laptop in my lounge.
    It's almost always on, 24 hours a day :)

I have a sony bravia smart tv., which I've had for about 6 years, and its brilliant. my friend who lives up the road bought a lg tv at the same time as I bought my sony. his one went wrong a while ago, and he bought another lg. but it somehow lacks quality, compared to my sony. I advised him not to buy lg, now he wishes he had taken my advice.
We bought an LG tv from Makro in their sale in 2008.  It’s working perfectly 13 years later.

I purchased an LG 4K TV from Currys in January 2016, which unfortunately kicked the bucket yesterday.

I was wondering if the Consumer Rights Act 2015 would give me any ability to claim a repair or replacement to my TV or if I'll just have to accept that it has died and will need to just buy a new one...

It really chose a great time to die; the day before my birthday 😫

What is the model number of your LG tv and hows much did you pay for it then?
