Nannyg, I agree with you about Christmas shopping for children. My great niece and great nephews have a pot each in my bank account and their Christmas and birthday money goes into those. My current executor (my sister who is their nana) knows that they are to be distributed as named. They live in a different country so I can't open bank accounts for them but their parents are all quite happy that they have a little savings fund ticking away. I have told the mums and dads that if they need money for anything when the little people are older then they can ask.

Cranky - I have a saving a acc attached to my c/a and every pay day put a little into it, it's not much but hopefully it'll keep growing for the dgc, my dds know about it and will give it to them when I'm gone. And you've reminded me that I must get my executors changed over to my dds, it was written when they were under age and they are definitely not that now!!

It's nice to put money away on a long term basis for younger relatives.  I split my gift budget - half goes into communal premium bonds and the other half to small gifts to be given on the day.  The premium bonds pot grows steadily but so far hasn't won anything.

I’m all for having some things in stock…you never know when you might need a back up, whether it’s an emergency, an illness, a financial hiccup …or even a supply difficulty as the supermarkets seem to have right now. It’s all so much easier if you have bread in the freezer, some pasta, rice and basics in the cupboard.
I love Christmas 🎅🏻, but we do tone it down a lot now. Everything has to be posted, so it pays to get ready early.
I’m the same with shopping, it’s somehow more effort than it’s worth these days…I’m surprised the shops aren’t suffering more!

Blackcats - one of my dgc has just had her first win of £25 on the premium bonds, there's always a chance of the big one!!!!

WinterWarrior - I love the run up to Xmas, the shops, decorations, Pantos with dgc, craft fairs and the whole sherbang, but not all the extras that it involves money wise, I think in the past it didn't ever quite live up to expectations, that's tv for you, but it's always lovely to be with family, perhaps it's since my dds have left home and have their own families now and I've lost control of it !!!!!!!!! Lol.
On the pantry bit I always have too much in really for one person, I have never got use to being on my own after bringing up three healthy eating girls!

So I know it's late I was just crossing another day off and wondering what I put on the list for food tomorrow, not very exciting but it will probably involve kale from the allotment and I have some potatoes to use, so it may be a bean/lentil shepherd's pie, not sure yet. Anyway making loads of typing errors as I'm tired so I will call it a day.

    Hello everyone

I've had a productive day today.I went to the allotment and did quite a bit of clearing down there and collected quite a bit of fresh veg, tomatoes, cucumber, turnips, courgette, green beans, beetroot and sweetcorn. I discovered tomato blight in the outside ones, so had to get rid of those :( but the ones in the tunnel are ok at the moment. Rats or squirrels have been helping themselves to my sweetcorn as well, pesky animals! But never mind there's plenty of other veg.

We had an allotment inspection a couple of weeks ago and we all have to lower our hedges somewhat, so that's the next big thing, a kindly gentleman has offered to help me which is nice of him, so hopefully it won't take too long and we can then help others.

Had a lovely visit from dd and her youngest late this afternoon, and had a good natter, she is on holiday this week so it was good to have a really good catchup, whilst dgd played outside and then inside, bless.

    So no money spent today
    Dinner - lentil spag bol
Tea - crumpets and jam then crumble & yogurt

You are so green fingered, that’s quite a haul. I wouldn’t mind feeding the squirrels, I put apple and carrot out for the wild rabbits here as I love to watch them 😁

WinterWarrior - not sure about being green fingered, but I have had the allotment a few years so l know what grows well down there.

Been doing grandma duties today so didn't get in until 6.30pm and then just had a quick tea of a sandwich and bowl of cereal!!! I was desperate for something sweet and that's all I've got really (and banana loaf of course, I keep finding more in the freezer I'm sure it's multiplying in there)
So nothing spent as I didn't take my old battered pushchair with me and dds partner had theirs in the back of his car, and I'm certainly not carrying toddler for the walk into town, or anywhere else!!!

So that's about it really, not a lot happening at the moment. Take care everyone.

When I used to have some long days of travelling for work I used to enjoy a bowl of cereal for tea when I eventually got home - quick, easy and comforting.
