  • Hi NannyG love your diary.  I am older than you coming up 74 on halloween  and in much the same position as you financially, basic pension and a little savings so don't qualify for pension credit,  Its a good thing we were brought up in the make do and mend era - like you I can usually cobble a meal together with odds and ends.  WW is definitely right a little chocolate treat on an evening is a must! take care x
  • WinterWarrior - I didn't get my choc after all that. Sil came we had coffee chat put the world to rights and he was getting the girls together to go and poor poorly dgd pukes up everywhere!! Poor little mite, I sat on the front step with  her holding her hair back out of the way, and mopping her up. She's ok now but unfortunately I can't have her tomorrow as I'm 16 miles away with dgs.

So I didn't get a lift into our small town and by then I couldn't be bothered!!! So whilst I'm in dgs small town tomorrow I will try the hb there on our usual walk. I need to get a coffee card for a friend's birthday and post it off as well, as it's this weekend, and I will get my free coffee as well whilst in there.

  • Four_Seasons - I'm glad you enjoy my ramblings! The trouble I find with chocolate treats is I can't leave any in the fridge, cupboard etc I have to eat the whole lot even if it makes me feel sick, so I'm thinking the advent calendar will be a good idea because I will follow the days!! (I hope so anyway). I could have a trial run in October lol Then November just to make sure lol!!!
On the make do and mend bit, I think I'm much better now as I have less money, I was one of these people who lived up to my wage and only had a little debt and when I first retired, besides feeling a bit redundant for quite a time, I had to learn to live with a lot less money, and I'm achieving it and its surprising what you dont need, I mean I was tempted by the Halloween ducks in the land of pound the other week!!!! Didn't buy any, what would I do with them??!! But once upon a time ....

  • Right off to gather my bits together for tomorrow, I'm not a morning person (and for the 5 years before I retired I worked 6am-2pm?) So I get everything ready to just go,the night before. But tomorrow I'm bringing dgs home to here at lunchtime and his daddy will pick him up early evening. I'm hoping to fill my car up as well, it should have been done last week when I was paid, but as I wasn't very well I just haven't been out, but I'll see as I'm don't want to queue for too long as dd says dgs just yells and cries for some reason, I told her he's perhaps telling her not to forget his treats when she pays but she just ignored me  :D
Anyway better get on, have a restful night and good day tomorrow

  • This will be a quickish one tonight.
Went to dds and stayed there a while then came down home with dgs. My petrol light had come on, but dd told me they only had diesel at their local petrol station so I came home very carefully and called in our local tosco and filled up! The car in front of me at the pump had drawn up at the same time as me and had gone by the time I had I got my tosco card, and direct debit card accepted at the pump, they must have just topped up!!!! I shouldn't need any until next pay day, I only fill up once a month.I've told eldest dd she can use my car if she can't get any as she's a shift worker for nhs and she's insured on mine, she's not getting out of working that easy!!!!  So that was the only money spent and that was from my fuel budget, so nothing spent on food. I will be doing some tomorrow as I really need milk and loo rolls now and I'm taking dgd to an orthodontist appt so I will do a round robin taking in collecting my prescription, taking back my library book, orthodontist and shopping!! I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

  • Didn't get on yesterday, my charger lead broke. Dgd and l went to get a new one and then she took it home with her!! so I couldn't charge my kindle!!! But she bought it back this morning so back in business.
Yesterday was a bit busy as well besides collecting prescription, having flu jab, going to the library I went to hb for coffee and a few bits and then a$da for some shopping so in total on food I spent £15.36 which includes some money left from last week and today I went to the community pantry and spent another£5.50, so I will update my signature after this. I have enough in to last until my new week starts on Wednesday.

It'd been raining on and off all day and the nights are really drawing in as well, but I'm determined its too early to put the heating on yet, even though it's quite cool.

That's about it really not much has happened, dgd and I have been watching a James Bond DVD this afternoon and she's gone home now. Ok, going to get my tea, veggie burger, potatoes, cabbage and green beans, lunch was poached eggs on toast (I seem to have loads of eggs for some reason).

  • Lovely to hear from you  missed you yesterday x
  • Four_Seasons - aw thank you, I must admit I missed being able to on my kindle!! I could put this site in my phone but it would be very small I think!

I didn't put down some of the things I got from the community pantry, it is pretty random each week but it depends what they have . Anyway I had some mince pies I know not everyone likes them but I love them, they have a really good date on them, so I might save them for Xmas .... No - that's never going to happen ha,ha. I stocked up on some tins Tom's, beans, spaghetti hoops (for dgc) as well as some unusual bits like a large bag of haggis crisps, and some bruschette that I can't wait to try. That's just a small sample of what is there and it only costs £5.50 you obviously get more as well as some fresh fruit and veg and a loaf of bread if they have it., and they supply toiletries as well. I did try olio but there wasn't anyone doing it near to where I live.
Anyway I have a phone call to make and it has to be before 7:30 so I will make that before I forget.
    Take care

Hi everyone, my phone call last night was to my oldest friend and they have invited me to their 50 wedding anniversary I've known both of them since I was 17!!! Anyway it's in the New Year so I just have to organise transport to where they live.

Not a lot has happened today, I made a aubergine and courgette bake of which I've had half tonight, and its used the last of the aubergines up - yay at last!! And the sauce has used some of the tomatoes up as well. I confess I had a few chips with it from my coop £5 deal a couple of weeks ago and they were lovely :)

After a horrible rainy morning this afternoon has been sunny and windy so the wm went on and it all dried outside, so very happy about that, just a bit if ironing to do now :'(

Over the weekend I will be tackling the back bedroom and visiting the allotment. I'm going to start with the wardrobe and drawers and under the bed on Saturday and then change the bed and clean it Sunday, that's the plan anyway. Down the allotment the sweet corn needs taking out and some of the squash and a couple of cabbages picked. It will be an on going tidy up and shut down for winter on the allotment, although there still quite a bit in the ground. Oh and the never-ending weeding of course.

Eldest dgd who was here today had a play with my lap top to see if she could get it going, during the first lockdown I made the mistake of starting a Windows 10 update and its never worked since, not sure what happened but when I get some spare funds I will take it the repair shop we have near here to see if it can be repaired.

So that's it for today, going for a look around the boards.

I’ve been following your diary but not posted before. I retire in 6 years, I won’t be on a huge pension so it’s interesting to see how you manage. I think you’re doing really well.
