Today my eldest dgd came for a visit so I persuaded her to come with me to the shop (down the hill) so I could get a few necessary items, just the usual milk, cheese, eggs and butter. Plus a few veggies and she pulled the shopping trolley back up the hill for me !!! She’s a good girl, well young woman really as she’s 19 later on this week, she’s asked for no birthday cards and when I’m back driving I’m taking her out for a meal as her present!!!After she’d gone I took the pup out for a walk through the woods which he really enjoyed as there were ‘things’ in the undergrowth to sniff and if I’d have let him off his lead he would have been chasing whatever was there, so I’m glad I hadn’t!Lunch was jacket potato and beans and tea was pasta, veggies, hm Tom sauce and a sprinkle of cheese.Tomorrow if newest dgd is ok (she has got a sniffly nose from somewhere probably her brother or sister) my youngest dd is picking me up and we are going into the city for a look around at clothes for her and the children as they seem to grow like weeds, especially dgs. So I’d better call it a day and go to bed as she’s coming down as soon as she’s taken dgd to school and dgs off at nursery so I’d better be ready and waiting for her, mind you she has a little way to come so it gives me time to get ready🙂

Perhaps as the freezer is enclosed, not much dust is likely to get in? Mine's in an old fashioned larder with a ventilation window so the dust certainly does get in!
Another Good Life fan here. I could probably recite chunks of it, and it still makes me smile, jut thinking of it (the Christmas episode!)

We are certainly all different in our outlooks and feelings.
Although I have lived in my current house for 20 years I would have no issue moving to another property. I do not tend to get attached to houses or cars and can move on from them without an issue.
As far as equity release is concerned at the moment I wouldn’t consider it, but in the future if it meant having more comforts and an easier lifestyle, I would investigate the process. However I don’t have any direct descendants to consider. I have also made it clear that anything I leave to my nephews and nieces should be seen as a bonus and not a given. Fortunately, they agree.Downsizing would not be an issue for me. A 2 to 3 bedroom detached bungalow or smaller detached house would be fine. After being detached for so long I don’t think I could be attached again lol!3 -
My parents went for equity release because they need the income, but I'd consider very carefully before going into it. My Dad handled that side of finances but I remember Mum saying to me that they ended up using more than he would have intended because he developed dementia and took his eye off how the balance of money was changing.
It's a complicated story but the bank ended up with about a third of the value of the house, far more than initially planned.
So I think if anyone is considering equity release, consider a worst case scenario of not being able to handle your finances. Is there another person who is close enough to the situation to advise or use a Power of Attorney to ensure your wishes and current finances are taken into account?
Sorry, @nannygladys, I'm hijacking your thread. It's a subject that concerns me - and yet my parents needed the income. People have to do what works for them and I can well understand you staying in your home. It sounds as though you're very well suited to where you live despite the hill. I hope you're now having a nice day out with the family.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Baron_Dale - we are all very different how we live and what we do, it would be very boring if we all thought the same🙂 I’ve always had quiet attached neighbours luckily (even if they don’t communicate very much!) and I do like my house, perhaps I’m just lazy but I’ve got most things I need here so whilst I can eat drink and be merry (without debt) I’m a happy bunny😄

Cherryfudge - I love that episode as well, I wish they would bring it back somewhere, I’ll have to have a look round. I also love the darling buds of may, but I was slightly miffed as I had read the books several times (curtesy of my mum giving me hers) and as usual the tv series didn’t quite live up to them, but I enjoyed them just the same, I think it was the sunshine, food, fun and cheekiness of it all. You’re not hijacking my thread it’s important to have differing views on subjects especially when you have first hand knowledge of it. Ever since all the adverts on tv about equity release I’ve felt uneasy about it but I would imagine it can work really well for some people, lm just happy living a more simple life or am I just tight and nobody is getting their hands on my house 🤣🤣🤣🤣.£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund7 -
The Good Life is currently showing on Gold, we’re actually watching it right now. It still makes me laugh. It’s sometimes run on BBC iPlayer too.I used to work with someone who did the equity release when he retired but he and his wife suffered poor health and his children didn’t want an inheritance. He wanted to travel while he was still able. Personally it’s not for me but I understand his reasoning.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

We didn’t manage to go up to the city today, youngest daughter had a couple of things to sort first that came up, so we hope to get up there next week instead. No worries I wasn’t buying much anyway, mainly looking and pram pushing !Went to fat club this afternoon and I lost 1 1/2 lbs which is good as I’m still going in the right direction. It’s more like a social club really as we all get on really well and it’s only a small group as it meets at 3:30pm. We are all good, bad and inbetween but have a giggle, booster each other up and there’s always someone needing support, we seem to take the last one in turn🤣🤣 oh and the consultant is a really lovely lady.
So no money spent and had my version of a chippy tea when I got back in - yum yum!!Tomorrow, I do have to go and collect dds mug and my jug we decorated at a pottery as part of my birthday present, you have to collect your ‘masterpieces’ within a certain time period and it’s due up at the end of this week, so I’m going on little day out, I might have a look at the halloween & Xmas bits they have for sale but unless I fall head over heels in love with something the purse will remain closed. Oh dear it makes me seem very miserly when I write that, but I’m not, if I see something and I have the spare cash I may buy it, but I’m past just buying for the sake of it! That ship sailed long ago.Anyway I’ll go, I slept really badly last night, don’t know why but it just happens every so often, always has done, so I’m having an early night I think. But first I’ll have a look around the boards. I can’t wait until Friday when I go and get my eyes checked and hopefully I’ll be signed off.

Snap! I lost 1.5lb today too! My group isn't too big either as it's at 10.30 in the morning. The 9am group is definitely bigger as I think of lot of them have kids that they drop off at school and then come straight to group.
Good luck for your eye appointment on Friday. Hopefully you'll be able to start driving again.5 -
Hi everyone, I went to my eye appointment on Friday and I have been signed off - yay😀😀😀 so pleased, just have to see the optician and I’ll be mobile in the car again.
My newest dgd is in hospital, she only a couple of weeks old and it’s been a very tense time and I’ve been really upset, as well as my daughter and partner of course, she went in as an emergency on Wednesday and is still in but out of the hdu today so she’s improving now and hopefully she will be home really soon. It was very unexpected and thank goodness for the nhs and gp’s.So I’ve looking after babies big sister who is very crafty and she made a pizzeria with a drive through on my dining room table 😂 yesterday, and although she has gone home today it’s still there, she put so much effort into it, it’s a shame to dismantle it. She even used my phone as a roaring log fire, curtesy of you tube with an oven drawn round it and took people from the dolls house as customers and drew all the different varieties of pizza!I have to admit my budgeting has been blown apart but I’ll go through it tomorrow to see what I can salvage - she came with me to the eye clinic and afterwards we went for a pub roast dinner!!!!! Not like me at all, but it was very nice and pup enjoyed his roast beef leftovers we bought back from dgds plate as they gave her too much🤣🤣
So that’s it from me today, hopefully I’ll get back to daily posting now things have calmed down a bit.
