We haven’t had transport for the past 10 years since my hubby had a brain tumour and no longer allowed to drive. I don’t drive, I walk everywhere, it keeps me fit and saves a lot of money. There are a few odd occasions I miss having a car but not that many.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • nannygladys - I had my cataract surgery in June - one eye on the 1st and the 2nd on on the 8th, and after two weeks they gave me new glasses. Most of the time I can see okay without the glasses, but I sometimes get double vision with the glasses so have to discuss that with the doctor. But it doesn't take forever to recover these days. Good luck with your surgery.

That was quick @weenancyinAmerica - I'm having mine done 4 weeks apart and have been told not to get new glasses for 6 weeks after that so I'm going to be 14 weeks in total with glasses that aren't right for me!

kayannie - according to the article I read the cuttings should be taken about now, but if I can't get down the Lottie it'll be in a few weeks. I'm like you I like free plants especially if I've had a go at propagating and it works. 😀
I think I ought to encourage my DD to take me to the garden centre and as I get two free coffees a month I'll bribe her with one and then I can have a look at the nearly dead plants, to see if I could revive any of them that may be suitable. I'm planning on doing the garden next year, so I have a time to plan it out. It sounds if it's big but it isn't, but the soil is very poor and a although it's supposed to be lawn it's mainly moss because of a hedge, so some research needs doing I think 😀
Would wildflowers be an option for some of your cottage garden, nannygladys? Apparently they like poor soil, and come up year after year once they're established. You can get packs of mixed seeds as I'm sure you've seen, and pollinating insects like them too.

Wishing you well with the cataracts. :)

joedenise - i was in Wilko's just before my eye test and managed to get loads of seeds at half price and some paint that was on offer for the bathroom and downstairs but they didn't have blinds or curtain poles (which is something else I need) and I won't be going into the city until after all this eye stuff is over 😞, I can't really carry much back on the bus and I do have an uphill walk back from the bus stop (I live in a very hilly area and unfortunately I live near the top of one 😂) it'll all have to wait a bit unless I can either buy online or get someone to take me.

Sun_Addict - when we first moved here we didn't have a car and I had two little ones and an old double pushchair but that was over 40years ago when I was obviously a lot younger and fitter 🤣🤣🤣 when I started work  after me and hubby parted company I saved for a deposit on a car and bought an old banger - oh happy days it made life so much easier! And I've had one ever since but now I'm quite looking forwards to being a bit healthier as I do enjoy walking - as long as it's not ☔ Ng of course 🤣🤣

weenancyinAmerica - crikey that was quick, I've been told you're not signed off from the first eye for 4 weeks, then it could be a couple of more weeks or longer before the other is done, then you wait another 4 weeks to get signed off from that one, then go back to the opticians to get tested for new glasses and then wait for your new glasses. It so the soonest will be 8 -12 weeks before I can go to the opticans after the first op. and then a couple of weeks before you get glasses ! It'll all be worth it though but the timing isn't brilliant as my youngest is having a baby at the beginning of October, so she's starting to get a bit anxious about me not seeing her as she lives about 16miles away and theirs no direct buses or trains there - it'll all work out I'm sure 😊

Cherryfudge - what a good idea about the wild flowers. I actually have a new box that I bought for the Lottie for this year and haven't used, so they should be ok for next year 😁 thank you for that. I put half a box in the garden last year and all sorts grew and self seeded, so this year I have different flowers all over the place, it's a good job I'm not keen on a regimented garden 🤣🤣 they were only from Home Bargains and did really well!
Thanks for the good wishes, I'm sure everything will be fine , mind you I might not sound as positive the nearer I get to it 😁

MisterPym - thanks for the positivity about the operation. I'll be glad to be able to see clearer again so I'm happy they will both be done quite quickly. I must admit I wasn't expecting it to be this quick and the nearer I get to the date the more nervous I'll get but everyone has been so positive about having them done it makes me feel better about it all 🤣🤣
