MissRikkiC said:Maybe a long shot here but also maybe not but does anyone have any quite recent (although not hugely important) bbc good food mags they would be willing to donate and I will pay postage? I’ll also swap for an envelope of Runners world If that suits anyone’s interests?I love reading through them and was once a subs holder a few years back (and tended to recycle recipes from them year after year) but they were gathering so much dust I threw them away!Otherwise I might have to consider swapping my RW subs for BBC GF instead

@thriftwizard - congratulations on your new grandson and commiserations to your DiL and DS on having such a frightening time bringing him into the world.
As for all the visitors, had you considered hammocks? I was taken on a school trip to HMS Victory a loooong time ago now and what I chiefly remember is the guide telling us what an effective method of cramming people into a small space in a modicum of comfort they were. Clearly fresh air was not considered an essential in those days!7 -
Just popping back to add in this comment I noticed on the Good Housekeeping site this evening.
In 2020, the average UK household spent £63.70 a week on food according to the Office for National Statistics.
And also this link to the ONS page covering; Spending patterns of UK households, with findings taken from the Living Costs and Food Survey (LCF). - Expenditure - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) On that page there is an interactive Family Spending Explorer and also a recently published ONS Bulletin about Family Spending in the UK: April 2019 to March 2020.
I haven't had time to do much more than glance at the material but thought that others might be interested so I would paste the link up and then hope to have time to read further over the next few days.
I should also declare an interest in that I am one of the households that are interviewed for the LCF which is a bit clunky for some of the questions but does generally capture the right data."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

£10.85 spent in little T today on butter, pepsi cans, ribena, apple juice and 2 bars of reduced chocolate! £70.76 left til the 24th, we should *just* do it.
spinach and ricotta stuffed chicken breasts with mash and tender stem broccoli for dinner tonight and we had stilton and broccoli soup with extra sour cream, seeds and lots of seeded bread for lunch. feeling very green today.7 -
@goldfinches, I'm giggling at the thought of DS1's dachshund trying to negotiate a hammock... it's a tempting idea!
NSD today, despite having intended to whip to the market for a few extra goodies. Maybe tomorrow - but then again, maybe we'd be fine without them!

@thriftwizard - I should have thought a dachshund would be the ideal dog for such an arrangement which is making me chortle too. Might make rather a charming/whimsical illustration for a card as well, the dog lying back with all four paws in the air and nose stretched out towards the end of the hammock would be rather sweet I think.
Congratters on your NSD, I also managed one and like you am thinking I'm perfectly well off without having parted with any money today. Scrimpers 2 Shopkeepers 0 today then.

Current spends stand at £67.60/£350. Hoping to keep the spends relatively low this week as 1 child is away camping and we've got loads of bits in that will feed the other 2! Fruit bowl is overflowing so mainly salad and veg to buy, plus milk and bread. Main meals are planned and lunches can be soup, hot dogs, sandwiches etc.Grocery Challenge 2024

Nothing spent today, all food to be eaten today is already catered for. Finding I'm better at meal planning if I only do a few days at a time, and then look what I'm left with to make some concoctions up!! It's a good job there is only me!!!
