Maybe a long shot here but also maybe not but does anyone have any quite recent (although not hugely important) bbc good food mags they would be willing to donate and I will pay postage? I’ll also swap for an envelope of Runners world If that suits anyone’s interests?I love reading through them and was once a subs holder a few years back (and tended to recycle recipes from them year after year) but they were gathering so much dust I threw them away!Otherwise I might have to consider swapping my RW subs for BBC GF instead

Sorry MissRickiC I stopped buying mags a long time ago but I bet someone will be able to help. There's always the website to look at.
Again no money spent so still doing OK. I will be making an apple crumble/sponge later as I have some wrinkly apples in the fridge.
I can see a quiet weekend ahead for me, before it all starts again next week.

Hey y'all. I hope everyone has had a good week. Mine has been brutal in terms of work because I've taken several rush projects. I'm going to put in some more time tonight then have a simple dinner with Mr. Jings before crashing into bed and waking up to sit at my computer again Saturday morning. We also have a load of Ikea furniture assembly ahead of us tomorrow since our wardrobes arrived on Wednesday and Mr. Jings has been delaying starting until I had time to help him.
Anyway, today I made a trek to the big Tesco for what I initially thought would be a few items but when I started making my list it expanded quite a bit. I bought tomatoes, avocados, loads of strawberries, pineapple, kiwi, parsley, milk, cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan, sliced ham, Greek yoghurt, hummus and aioli, eggs, cereal, wholewheat rolls, and peanut butter. The total came to £38.94.
I'm pretty proud of myself because I primarily stuck to my original list. the only exceptions were the kiwi fruit which were 6 fruit in a green net bag for only 67p so decided to go for it. Also the hummus and aioli are part of the 2 for £2 deal at Tesco. I bought 3 hummus and an aioli.
Total spent so far is £66.13 / £400 with £333.87 remaining. I am genuinely surprised at how well we're doing this month. Maybe July was just a month to load up on things but hey, I'll take this slow progress for August any time.
In terms of cooking this week(end), we have a lot of veg at home to get through. I'll be making a bulghur salad tomorrow to use up a lot of zucchini, tomatoes, parsley, etc. I'll also roast the remaining zucchini and some beets we have in the fridge along with some onion to have roasted vegetables at hand. Lastly, there are some beet greens to sauté so we can use them in things like omelettes or as a side dish. I may get some meatballs out of the freezer and cook those to have with the beet greens.
Not sure what Sunday will be bring in terms of cooking. I'll be getting my second vaccine then so I think I should cook some stuff beforehand to have on hand in case I feel a bit sick.
Anyway, have a happy Friday night y'all!4 -
@MissRikkiC - sorry I can't help you as I have always read it at the library and when they started providing access to the electronic version I began reading it that way from home. It might be worth your checking what your County Library Service gives access to as ours has greatly expanded its electronic offerings since the start of lockdown and seems to be adding more subscription services etc. each month now. The other way to get at least the index is through an Eat Your Books paid membership if you have that. I tried to add it under my free membership but that counts one issue as one of your five books whereas with a paid membership you can add the whole series of any magazine they've indexed.
I went shopping with a list and was fairly successful at sticking to it apart from succumbing to the impulse to buy cherries and a couple of y/s items. I bought dried porcini, cherries, mushrooms, shallots, carrots, lemons, limes, olives, plain flour, gherkins, a small baguette, tomatoes, y/s basil and y/s mixed leaves and spent £14.32. That brings my total this month to £39.90/£124 and my average daily spend to £4.43.
I still have milk in the freezer and 5 days worth of yoghurt in the fridge so think I can manage without doing another shop until at least next Wednesday.4 -
A slight de-railing of life in general has led to me spending a somewhat massive £143 in the last couple of days! Our gorgeous & long-awaited grandson has finally arrived, but after a loooong & complicated labour & poor DDiL lost a lot of blood. They are both still (understandably) somewhat wobbly and shocked, so we're doing meals & dropping them down to them for a while until they find their feet. Needless to say, DS1 & his partner are rushing down to inspect the new arrival this weekend, so that's another couple of extra mouths to feed, and the small matter of finding somewhere to put them - and the dog - when the house is still bursting at the seams with bits of my mother's furniture and possessions, having had to clear her home in 6 days flat thanks to a fortuitous sale.
We'll cope. Probably!
So that was £43 at the butchers, £38 between two trips to the supermarket, £55 at the market this morning on fish, cheese, fruit & veg, and £7 at the bakers. That should do us for nearly all of this week; the menu plan is done, and all main ingredients are present and correct, but milk, yogurt, sliced bread and bananas will no doubt need topping up at some point.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4
