It clearly says they had taken the decision to write of my debts as a gesture of goodwill
It does, but just because they say that doesn't make it true.
Companies use "gesture of goodwill" almost all the time, usually to avoid admitting wrongdoing.
Don't read too much into it.
I can 1 million percent say they wrote it off as a goodwill gesture. It’s a proper procedure. It was mentioned on a Martin Lewis phone in on the telly a few years ago. I had to ring them and explain. They send out a budgeting sheet with in goings and out goings, my payslips so they could see I was really only getting ssp l,and I only worked part time anyways because of childcare issues. And I had to get my doctor to print out medical records from the pysciatrist and my cpn. A local debt charity helped me with the whole procedure. They were written off, I don’t know what makes you such of an expert on this that you know more than Martin money saver expert and a debt charity. Citizens advice even confirmed the accounts the accounts were closed as a goodwill gesture, they corrosponded with everybody that I had brought debt letters in for. Your original comment about lowell and basically saying they wouldn’t believe a “sob story” well they obviously did believe my “sob story” because it was a genuine case. I had been very unwell and the debts were all relating to me having a Manic episode and being psychotic at the time of the debts, and I wasn’t in a position to pay it back, because I was still not well enough to return to work. They did write them off as a goodwill gesture, and i only included the account numbers in my debt relief order (even though they had a zero balance)That was the advice of citizens advice because why not?? Why not include those debts, it would do no harm
