I know what it is now. It's because I've added a rule to uBlock Origin to remove that otherwise useless waste of space on the left side of the forums.  The majority of the time it serves  no purpose whatsoever other than to waste space.

Likewise here. I just need to remember to temporarily turn off uBlock when I need to see something in that left menu - which is not very often.

IF I wanted to start a new thread.
IF I wanted to see someone's posting history via their profile page (or find something in my own posting history / messages).

Beyond that? I can't think of anything else, so I'll continue to use my filters and have a much more pleasant interface with the forum.
