I would take the personas email address out of the post. I'm sure they will not like getting flooded with emails.

I have her permission to post her email. When my deal was finalised I asked if I could share it and she said yes, but please email her so she can contact people instead of fielding lots of phone calls.

How does the lease compare to purchase after any discount or incentives?
    carwow cash offer
    £18,737

    You save
    £1,747 (8.5%)

That's an offer from one dealer on car wow.

The problem the Scala has is I thought it was going to replace the Fabia but the Fabia is still there and I can only assume sales are not matching expectations.

Some good discounts to buy now and I would assume on the forecourt so it might be worth ringing around if the wait is a pain.

    See autotrader.

Bought the missus a Kamiq in January and swithered long and hard between the two.

The dealer told me the Scala replaced the Rapid in the line up. The cheapest offer I got from Carwow was £15,923, that was for a brand new factory order of the SEL model which has a Total RRP of £20,485. This was using a PCP, which obviously you could pay off if you chose to after taking delivery.

I'm happy with the PCH I've taken out, but either way I think it's a lot of car for the money.

I was phoned by the dealer earlier to confirm my order has been placed with Skoda. She said she had had a number of emails since I shared the deal!

That meets my criteria of a great deal, all in monthly payments aggregated across the term less than 100th of the cost to buy.
This type of "rule of thumb" is useful, but what are the limitations?  There must be some impact of mileage restrictions being higher or lower.  There may be other variables.

Is the "rule of thumb" applied against list price or cash / incentive price?

The OP has the car at £4,150 over two years, 8k miles / year.  That means:
    £173 per month
    26 pence per mile

Applying the "rule of thumb" 100 times the monthly £173 = £17.3k.  "Rule of thumb" succeeds against list price but fails against best price to purchase.

Without the rule of thumb, the OP's deal seemed a good one.

I assume that excess miles are 3.6p per mile for this engine, so it's quite cheap.

My friend had Octavia 1.0 SE Tech, 10K miles per annum, £4200 total for 2 years. It was cheaper to take a lease for 10K miles and pay excess, than pay for 15K miles upfront. She extended it for another 6 months post Covid. It was pretty good deal.

You need something that gives you a quick method of deciding whether it is worth exploring further.  When I leased for a short while I ran all the numbers through a spreadsheet to work out the best deal and also best deal for me  (subjective).  The one fly in the ointment is future value, you can have a rough idea but things like covid come along and screw that up or perhaps even benefit you.  Taking FV out the equation is just one less thing to worry about.

That is why you go for the deal not the car when leasing, if you think you are going to get a good deal on brand new model you'll be sorely disappointed but you might get a cracker on the previous model and you don't have to worry about FV which will have taken a hit.

At the end of the day don't be fussy what you drive (lease) and//or just do the numbers.
