Secured a property, but I’m not happy with it!

    UPDATE

Been to view property again, & I still don’t really like it. But I have no other option but to continue.

Of course you do. Move into a rental property until you find something that you do like to buy.
There are no rentals available; everything available, families are given first refusal. I also do not have any family I can stay with long term, so I’m stuck!
Yep that's unfortunately the situation in most of the country and I agree that you're probably making the right decision in buying but maybe moving again in a couple of years.

    That's the market right now.

We (as buyers, who also have a property to sell) were also advised to move into a rental - but there's literally nothing about. Definitely nothing suitable for us with two children and two pets.

In the end we found a property to buy that we liked, but we needed to move and also considered buying a place to live in for 1-2 years.
Seems like a bonkers move, but feel like that's my only option at the moment. I hope all is progressing well with your purchase.

    UPDATE

Been to view property again, & I still don’t really like it. But I have no other option but to continue. My property is on the verge of exchange & completion so cannot back out of that sale, & I don’t want to (I want rid of it). Figured though I’ll live in the new house for 18 months, & providing the market stays okish, I’ll sell up & move on to something I want.

What is it exactly that's making you dislike it so much? Are these material things that can be changed?
The downstairs, I like. Nice open space living room, light and airy - that's not a problem. It is the upstairs that I have issues with. Configuration needed; putting up a new stud wall to make another bedroom, and the room sizes are small in comparison to what I have at the moment. I am having to sell furniture to fit into the bedrooms.
  • we bought a house 18 months ago as we were moving across the country and couldn't find "the one" - so we bought a stop gap place, I wasn't sure about it but actually really rather like it - layout is good, garden is the best ever and the people on the estate are friendly. Good outcome as didn't have great expectations for it - not in any steaming hurry to move again
I am hopeful when I get in, I will like it more and enjoy it. I think it's just the ''far from what I wanted'', but it is what it is, I guess.
  • If you feel you really need to buy then buy and no need to agonise and dwell on the negative? Sometimes all you really need is a roof over your head? Even if the layout is not perfect as it sounds like you are on your own you can just choose the best room in the house and “enjoy”? Just make sure there is no obvious problem neighbours, no parking problems if you have a car? Everything else surely there is no need to stress if you have chosen to buy? Life can not always be perfect.
Fair point. The area is where I live now, only moving 5 mins up the road, it's just the space I guess that is niggling me. But I guess a new place you make it 'work'.
