How can I easily close my TSB accounts?

Hi I have 2 current accounts and a savings account with TSB.
I'm trying to slim down my portfolio of bank accounts.
Is there a quick way of doing this? The instructions online seem very drawn out having to verify with passport photos etc
I've thought about switching the current accounts to my bank account that I use frequently... but what would happen to the savings account?

Unless the savings are in an ISA (where a new provider can liaise with TSB to move the funds) or in a notice account, you could move the balance to your TSB current account and out from there.

You may want to wait till the next interest payment if that is in the acceptably close future and move funds on the day the interest is paid.  You would then have an account with a zero balance and little or no interest due.

When satisfied that the savings account is empty, you can close the current account by a transfer to another provider or simply close it.

It may be simpler to go into a branch to close things.

Above link gives access to TSB's online account closure form. It can be used for both savings and current accounts.

There's a postal form if you don't want to faff about with photo ID

I had trouble closing a TSB credit card about six months ago. For the current account I just switched it away. their website said to go to branch to close the CC, but the branch staff were worse than useless sending me from cashier to cashier.
Just this morning I got an email from them "reminding" me that if I don't use my account within the next two months it will be closed as dormant, so I logged on to their website and my credit card is still showing along with a savings account that's been empty for years.

You can use the CASS switch to close your two current accounts. Make sure you have removed any remaining balance from your savings account before you do. You can then fill in the account closure form for the savings account, or just let the account sit there with a zero balance.

I've just managed to give instructions to close the savings account via the phone app... No idea if it will do the trick, but fingers crossed. I think I will switch the other 2 bank accounts so that they will close when the switch is completed.

I'm trying to reduce the number of bank accounts I have ... It would be a nightmare for anyone trying to sort it all out if I wasn't able to.

TSB don't make it easy. Calling is the best option. It can't be done in online banking in any way, with a link or through secure message. The online form needs photo ID and is more hassle than writing a letter.
  • I've just tried using the online form but gave up after three failed attempts.  I guess the computer thinks my selfie doesn't match my passport photo.  I'll just leave my four savings accounts with a nil balance.

Gosh! I've just logged into my TSB online Bank and my savings account has vanished! I messaged last night about 8.30 pm so really quick.
It was easy to use the TSB app and go via 'chat'
I will switch the other 2 accounts away but I would like everything closed down so that non of my details remain.

thanks for that info.  I have 3 old Easy savers that i'd like to close.   However, the chat function doesn't tell you until you've clicked "2 or more" that you can only do one at a time using this method, and then you need to have the sort code and account number to hand (I was hoping for a drop down box or account ending XXX), along with the details of the account you want any balance paying to.

So I will jot this info down and try again to close them one at a time.

    Thanks

we've still got 2 sole and a joint CA too, but we'll keep these as "spares" for now!!

*ETA - just given instructions for the first one, so once that's gone and cleared, i'll do the others.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)

I was not prepared to send TSB photo ID when I decided to close my two currents accounts, which paid no interest.

I switched them both to First Direct.
