There's clearly something wrong if it's being triggered inadvertently anyway, just thought that if it's a feature you wouldn't use, disabling it would be a whole lot easier than all the faffing about you're having to do with the retailer.

What conditions are supposed to trigger the childlock?

You can only manually turn the childlock on. its activated by touching set + for 5 seconds. So you can't even set it by accident. 
You can then deactive it but there's not way to completely turn the function off.

Sounds like a manufacturing defect with the controller that is present in that model, or perhaps at least selected production runs.  Has the latest one done it yet?  If it's a different model code it might have tweaked electronics.

Its the same model code - that's what I was angry about. I had wanted the new version but its 'not available yet'.
I've not used it yet but time will tell.......

No its a Lamona oven

Oh dear, they have a pretty poor reputation, although from personal experience, having bought a house where all the built-in appliances were Lamona, I was pleasantly surprised that they have all lasted for years.
