Firefox is a many times better than IE: it's faster, more secure, has more features and has a massive add-on / extension set for virtually everything you could possibly want. It had tabbed browsing long before MS decided to copy it for IE too.
I've been using it for years through many versions, and I only ever use IE if I really have to (virtually never, unless I need to test a site on both browsers).

As someone already said, you'll get everyone listing their favourite extensions, but the first best to make your browsing as secure as possible is: NoScript, with this installed, IE can't hold a candle to FF in the security stakes.

Well guys, I'm there, drinks on me!. I have to say it looks clearer, but more than that it seems much faster. Being an old ****, I keep looking for things where they were, ie favs, but I see they have to be accessed from Bookmarks. I'll resist the temptation to aquire any add-on's, but having said that, whenever any of you provide one, I may go and see what it's all about.

What I do see and can't think of a use for it, is a narrow band ie customize links/free hotmail/my yahoo/ windows market place/windows media/windows/yahoo bookmarks/yahoo mail/yahoo..........I do use yahoo and hotmail, but they are in favourites so should that strip be removed and how?

Oh yes, everytime I move about, a box tells/warns me about uncrypted messages. what's all that about,

Not been my personal experience since IE7. (I've been using firefox as my default since beta until IE7's release so I'm sure I've given it enough use to make a fair comparison)

  • Hi, I installed FF a couple of months ago, never looked back. I would like to try an alternative to Windows now, like Unix or something, I love trying new software, very sad I know:confused:
I am at a Crossroads in my life and deciding which path to take:coffee:

Oh yes, everytime I move about, a box tells/warns me about uncrypted messages. what's all that about,

Under Bookmarks you'll see a folder called 'Bookmarks Toolbar Folder'. Anything in that folder goes along that narrow strip so you can add/remove things from there.

To get rid of the strip altogether, right-click up near the top - eg over the menus - and you should be able to untick "Bookmarks Toolbar"

You can also select 'Customize' and then you can drag and drop things around. A box will open with buttons you can drag to the toolbars, or where you can drag buttons you don't want.

The unencrypted thing is the same warning you probably got when you first started using IE.
(If you mean the messages that say things like 'You are about to view an encrypted page..')
You probably ticked telling it to stop bothering you and you never heard from it again.

I've found it seems to be dependant on your system.

I've used many computers where IE just opens and shoots along and Firefox is sluggish.. On my current comp IE is much, much slower than Firefox - even disabling the phishing filtre in IE Firefox's still much faster.

I've always found pretty much the same. It really does seem to depend on the individual PC/OS/config.

As with most things, it best to just try out a few alternatives and then go with what works best for you. :)

Which takes us back to the OP that there's nothing wrong with installing all 3 and having a play with them. (Safari for windows at the moment still seems to be buggy and not much of a contender at the moment).

You can't loose out from trying.
I use it all the time.
Almost all the time as some websites are designed (badly) to only work with IE. So I use IE once in a while.
