We moved into a house about 5 years ago with no CH.

Thankfully we had a months lap over with a rental property so managed to get it replumbed, rewired and CH fitted in that month before moving in.

They also look like unswitched plug sockets in a few of the rooms.  They are not illegal, but almost certainly old, and so if you are going through the hassle and mess of installing central heating it would be a very good opportunity for a full rewire at the same time if you can afford it.

We lived in a flat with no heating, previous owners had taken out the storage heaters. We lived there for seven years and only had central heating installed the year we moved. But being surrounded by other properties helped, and it was on the south coast.

If it has blown air heating get it replaced. We had this in one of the houses we lived in when I was a child. My dad put central heating in.

To put central heating in it cost £400 to get gas into the flat (we had no gas at all) and then 3k to get the boiler and rads done. But this was for five radiators and was back in 2006.

Bournemouth is not cheap. I don't know the precise area you are looking for but would suggest its a reasonable amount of house for £300k.

So much to read, so little time.
  • You may not need a whole rewire, you could always pay for an electrical report- eicr to say what is needed? We decided to update our fuse box, the electrician said a whole house rewire wasn’t needed.
