Possibly Buying house with no central heating??-Link to house in thread

Options
Looking at the following house at the weekend, long story short we were due to exchange contracts on another property, however the people we were buying from have pulled out , so looking at the following house. It looks like there is no central heating , although the listing states gas heating (i have no idea what this means)???

4 bedroom end of terrace house for sale in Verwood, BH31 (rightmove.co.uk)

Any ideas how much it would cost to fit it -i guess new boiler and radiators?
Many thanks

Crazy idea perhaps, but why not ask the estate agent? I can't see any clues from the pics other than there appears to be a fire of some sort in the living room.

It doesn’t seem a very old house not to have some kind of central heating. I’ve viewed houses before built in the 1930s, one or two careful owners, with no central heating but nothing as new looking as that house.

The fire might be gas and maybe the photos have all been taking so the radiators or electric heaters cannot be seen at a guess. It has a D EPC rating so surely it can’t just be that one fire heating the whole place.

Houses were being built into the 1980s with no central heating.  This looks about that era.

There is estates around Manchester that are that age which for some reason were built with no central heating.  Seems mad to me.
You'd be looking at anywhere from £3k-£6k probably, depending on how awkward the job is etc.  It is quite a disruptive job to have done but perfectly possible to do.

Strange there is no kind of radiator in any of the photos.  I bought a two bed house which had storage heaters.  It cost around 4,000 pounds to install boiler, radiators, arrange gas connection  for a two bed Victorian terrace.  There was already a gas connection outside the property so it was a simple procedure. This was about 6 years ago.

A gas fire in the lounge and a couple of plug-in electric radiators in the bedrooms (only used when very cold and/or someone was ill) was all the heating my parents wanted.  My dad used to say that only 'soft southerners' had central heating.

Gas heating may just refer to the gas fire in the living room - the vents might be some form of warm air heating but I wouldn't count on it. Ask the agents or the vendors.

Cost will depend on how complex it is and what radiators etc. you chose, but in most cases I would expect you to be able to get it down for between £4,000 and £6,000

  • You can look up the EPC certificate here which will have details on the heating: https://find-energy-certificate.digital.communities.gov.uk/find-a-certificate/search-by-postcode

Costs depend on how much pipework etc is already in place.

There are a couple of vents visible in a couple of pictures which are for a blown air heating system.
