Bank lost my money!

Hello, Im wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to do next?
I opened up a business account at Lloyds on the 8 of Nov with £195. They tell me they have no record of that £195, only the second payment I put it a week later of £75.
I have no record of the £195 as of course I didnt own a paying in book for that account, they had to be posted to me. I know I should have asked for some kind of reciept but I didnt. All I came home with was my account number and sort code scribbled with biro on a piece of paper.
They say they will get back to me on this but that they have no record of me putting in it. Im thinking of asking if they have cameras there so at least there might be proof that I handed money over that day?
Any other ideas?

I'm amazed you didn't get a receipt even without asking for one.
You could ask them how was the account opened since an account is normally opened with an initial deposit. Is it even possible to open an account without making a first deposit?
Did you open it with cash? if so then it's more difficult since it's not traceable unless they find their books/ledgers don't balance at the end of the day.
If it's a cheque then you'll have evidence of it being cashed.
I don't think the cameras would be a great help - they're likely to show you going in but unlikely to be able to record you handing over £195. If they could then most customers would probably complain of an invasion of privacy.
EDIT : You say you didn't own a passbook and that it would be posted. Did it arrive? What does it show?
FURTHER EDIT : didn't you fill in an application form with all your details? I'm sure it would have been recorded on that form that you made an opening deposit of £195.

I thought all banks give you a receipt whether you ask or not....0

The paying in book was of course un-used when it arrived in the post. I remember the cashier saying the computer was busy and she would put it through as soon as it was free. Maybe she forgot. Great. It was cash by the way.
Darich, I didnt know an account HAD to be opened with cash, thats good news too.0 -
I am experiencing similar problems myself this morning, I sent two bankers drafts via special delivery which had been signed for at the Bank (Intelligent Finance does not accept any payment over the counter at any High Street bank), one of the bankers drafts has been credited to my account, and I telephoned them this morning to ask why the other was not on my account, I spent 1/2 hour on the phone, they said they can't locate it at this time, I have give them cheque numbers of the bankers drafts, the bankers draft cheques had my account number written on the back of them, where is my money, I am fuming with IF, one for not accepting payment in a High Street bank and another for losing a flipping cheque, how can I prove that the envelope contained two cheques and not one?"Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Ok thanks for that, thats another tactic I can talk about when the time comes.0 -

I wasn't stating it as fact. I was genuinely asking if an account could be opened without a deposit.
The reasoning being that if you have a new account opened on a certain date, but it only shows a record of one further deposit after that date, then if a deposit is necessary, how was the account opened? It proves there is a deposit they have no record of.
Unfortunately, neither do you and short of checking all the ledgers and computers for that day, it might be difficult to prove how much you deposited.
Best of luck though.

I'm pretty sure that I didn't need a deposit when I opened my HSBC business bank accounts...0

What I find strange is LTSB scribbled the OP account number on a bit of paper and didn't give out some form of receipt.
When I opened my HSBC accounts the clerk entered the account numbers on the letters before printing them out and giving them to me with the standard business account opening information.
BTW when you pay in cheques you are suppose to keep a note of some of the cheque details like the person who gave you the cheque, amount, date on the cheque etc in case the bank loses the cheque. I think RBS have warnings to this effect on some of their banking information and state that they are not liable if the cheque is lost.
I suggest Elixir chase the people who wrote the cheques out to you and get them to reissue them to you.
Merlot I don't know how bankers drafts are reissued so you are going to have to contact the bank who issued them or the person who gave them to you.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
