OK, I've now seen the Febreze advert enough times to warrant putting my rant down in writing.....
It asks Q. Did you know that every single flush flings odours onto your soft surfaces?
My answer - that's because you are not putting the lid of your toilet down before you flush, you silly moo! Do you think the toilet lid is just there as a back-rest for when you're straining to evacuate you bowels ? No! It's an integral part of the design to prevent bad odours and feacal matter being distributed around your bathroom after the toilet has been in use - do people not realise that ?
The same goes for the perennial 'toilet seat up or down ?' argument.
The hygenic answer is both toilet seat and lid down whenever the toilet is not actually in use, and especially prior to flushing.
Right, that's got it off my chest until the next time I see the advert......

Not really connected, women complain that the seat is not down, but those women usually care little for the lid. Those who complain about the seat not being left down would be equally likely to complain about the lid being down as their issue appears to be that they are too lazy to put the seat down, or alternatively, lift the lid.

I think the LID DOWN campaign should start here in MSE.

Know how you feel about adverts, at the moment there's one where a child is filmed actually INSIDE a farm machine, sitting on a moving conveyor belt with potatoes.

Kids act like a magnet to farm machinery with lethal or life changing results. Makes my blood boil and run cold at the same time.

I always put the lid down before I flush in public toilets, and it is always just a pee I have done.

So you think everything on TV should only show people acting in a safe and realistic manner?.

If a child has access to farm machinery unsupervised and gets involved in an accident that isn't the fault of an unrealistic TV advert!.

Thank you so much for a great laugh on a dull Monday afternoon. I love it!

Oh, and I'm ALWAYS a lid down person, whether at home or away. Anything else is just not on. And as for public toilets *shudder* - I'd rather go behind a tree. .

You can complain about such ads here - https://www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html

I think it would be a very valid complaint, too.

I'm with GSDMum here, yes. TV ads can be very influential for children. They may see an ad when they are watching TV alone, store up the info and then emulate the behaviour they see when they are able to.

Some TV ads may seem unrealistic to we adults but not to kids.

And if that mum thinks the ad is dangerous, then she has every right to complain. As do we all. That's how some ads have been banned. Remember all those ads for cigarettes and cigars? How many do you see now? They were removed because of the fear that they influenced people - children and adults.

It's not a crazy idea to complain about ads we think of as dangerous. At all.
