Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
They wait a few months untill the insurance coughs up and break in again as they know you are going to replace the things they have stolen.
Dont worry about it, as it looks like you are going to make your home more secure.
  • Sorry to hear about this, some good suggestions made, CCTV etc, is only good if your in the house and watching it or a decent system that will record somewhere other than the vcr in your living room, I knew a customer who had 2 obvious cctv cameras up he got broke in and they took the video recorder as well, so no evidance on tape. a cheep DVR in the loft out of the way is ideal. A house alarm with a speed dialer so it dials you when activated, these can be added to most house alarm systems for under £100. Id agree that patio door is a common easy point of entry, it seems to be common if they are slide or tilt and slide to put a plank of wood along it to stop it been forced. Having said that, i have known a plank in place and the theives just unscrwed the whole frame and lifted it out in one peice, not a bit of damage done at all ! newer doors tend to have all screws hidden these days though. Many years ago when visiting someones house i went round the back to see 3 blokes with axes smashing in a window frame in the middle of the day! Hope you get it all sorted.
  • so these doors are french open out type not patio sliding type , the picture you uploaded are these doors the same as yours ie 2 handles 1 for the slave door and 1 for the opening door ?

    nope sorry lol!!!

It's only got the one handle on one side. PLUS the reason were in dispute with them is because it only has double locks on the side without the handles. So the door with the handle only has the one lock that goes across into the other. Thats why it was so easy to get in :(

    Hey,

I am in dispute with both of them.

Home builder for using the window company
door company for fitting them incorrectly twice and there still not fitted correctly now either

  • I used to work for ADT Fire and Security,do not go with them they are way too expensive, and sometimes there installation is naff known as a house bash,ie cables stapled around door frames plus you have a £30 monthly monitoring fee.
Powermax do a easy to fit reliable alarm that calls a phone in the event of a break in.

I'm so sorry to hear of this.
I would like to say that i recently purchased a security system that records direct to my hard drive with cameras at the front and back and have fitted security lights. They are available at Maplins.

  • Sorry to hear about any of you who have been burgled! It isn't a nice experience! After I was burgled victim support helped me greatly in actually sending someone out to secure my home! Why not give them a call?
Depending on what kind of patio doors you have, if I remember correctly I think you can put a long stick or something like that inside the frame by the hinges. If you have plastic sections as part of the doors make sure they are secured and not just stuck in like mine were... if every thing fails you can fit a board in front of the plastic panels to stop entry to the property this way.
