my company specified at least 35mbps speed

What do you do that you need such a fast connection?
That sort of speed can rule out lots of the UK. Complete villages and even some parts of central London and other cities can't get those sort of speeds.
Are you sure they haven't misplaced a decimal point?

I guess it's because we work with large files over the internet, I suppose it does exclude quite a lot of people but it was a requirement when I took the job.
  • If you want FTTC (VDSL) you'll have to ensure that the property has or can be connected to an ordinary phone line.

Suggest you do some checking as to whether there is a phone line to the property and it is terminated correctly, just not cut and hidden behind the refurbished skirting board.

As for full FTTP, an outside wall will need to be drilled, so check with your landlord if they are happy about that.

Your employer requires you to have a broadband connection at home, they should supply it and pay for it. They should implement a business broadband contract service.
You should install a completely separate residential broadband service for your personal use. Residential broadband is not suitable for working from home as there is no service level guarantee.

Business use requires business service level and employer should pay for install and operation of it. End of.

WFH demand on domestic ISPs is pushing up prices already!
