thanks what you advise matches what I have found eventually.
1.9k door has some kind of special letter box fitted.

Hopefully this goes ahead next year.

Its just a fire resistant letterbox , if you look at screwfix theyre about £25 so not expensive just put in FD30 letterbox . They prevent flames and stop smoke entering through
Another mser had quoted that the new rules meant that cutting any shape such as a letterbox invalidated the wood.

  • I did read that . If its new rules then I haven't seen them nor aware of them . I would like to see them also if they can provide any back up . Fire doors have glass also which requires cutting into the system , So long as the hole is cut and sealed correctly  once the letterbox is installed . Same for . glass / locks / spyholes (although now I'm wondering how a lock is sealed up when it is a moving part ) here is a screwfix FD30 letterbox for £25 which "says" suitable for FD30 but do your own research . https://www.screwfix.com/p/firestop-intumescent-letterbox-polished-silver-306-x-70mm/367HP?kpid=367HP&ds_kid=92700058176431407&ds_rl=1244072&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpPu3pMn28wIVB7rtCh31vwbzEAQYAiABEgJVSPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

big difference . A verbally quoted I suppose can be anything unless it was agreed there and then . then I expect it maybe binding (or not done at all ) Its your shout about going for it . I expect a new wooden door (f.d 30) into the same frame would be considerably cheaper . If your flat is internal the condition of the wood maybe a lot better than weathered .

thanks internal though damaged by insurance entry when i lost key, though I re claimed plasterer successfully,
though door is visually badly damaged.

I'll decide over next few days as taking into consideration windows finance cost from April 22.

Seems 2-3K is FD30 costs including fitting.

    thanks

  • standard f.d 30 comp door . I charge less than 2k . I am more clued up on the regs now I have just jumped through hoops for a lady 3rd floor flat who is just selling and the buyer has a strange solicitor asking me questions that are written on my guarantee . ( so I had to check I was right before answering ) grenfel put the brakes on composite and fire being added in the same sentence  . Rightly so but afaik all checks have been made and now concluded . If changes have been made they are now making them again .
