Yes, Neil, you are missing the full story.  Three of us were here and set up with an approx £50 sky package.  Two have moved out and the Sky package is about to expire.  On my own here, so going over to freeview and I don't stream films or play games.  Web search mainly.  A few YouTube clips.  Buy on line.  Word document.  Email.  I have a mobile package which costs £6 per month.  So I am looking for something cheap which means less MBs.   Got a couple of weeks to sort out what to do.  Not ever researched this sort of stuff, and it's a minefield out there and even with GoCompare is impossible to compare.
I have NOW at 11Mb, with very similar use as you intend, I find it's OK speed for my use, and incidentally was fine for streaming films when I had Netflix etc streaming services

Farway, thank you for the info on your actual experience.  Very helpful.  I now have a plan.

I will, as Neil suggested, try to remain with Sky with an adjusted package.
If they do not offer comparable, I will find the cheapest 10/11MB package with confidence it will suit my needs.

The Plusnet deal is here Cheap broadband deals - how to find the best package - MSE (moneysavingexpert.com) You can find Now at a similar price on cashback sites but it is not available in all areas.

Oh God no. Don't. I had the equivalent of a Grimm horror story with them. Their customer service is non-existent. They will actively try to gaslight you and scam you out of your basic rights. I had a fault develop and they tried to do sales on the troubleshooting call, but gave me what seemed to be a good price for fibre. I knew I could cancel within the cooling off period and (tentatively) agreed but then found better elsewhere and revoked the change, which caused much consternation on their end as various people contradicted each other over the procedure. When I dared to switch away from them, they not only said (and I quote) 'we pride ourselves on not being the cheapest', 'we increase costs to you because of tax', but then deliberately disconnected my line for 17 days when I'd already lost 12 earlier in the month, out of sheer malice. They then tried to charge me for a package I had cancelled, internet usage I couldn't possibly have made, and it took another 3 months of seesawing to get my money back.

I wouldn't go back to Plusnet even if it was free.

The gloss for this is that you shouldn't look at 'positive' review, you should look at negative ones, and consider the price of mid-tier companies (Sky for example) as including 'idiot insurance' against these cowboys. You would be better off going for a smaller company such as Shell - they have far more to gain and it will be far easier to get somewhere if you have to kick up a fuss.

Suggest you read the Shell posts first .

problem with reading negative post is that they are heavily biased by those that have a problem . The half a million users that have no problem don't post .

    JJ.  Just talking about that.
Said bet when I look at MSE comments there'll be a negative for Shell.
I thank PetaQ for encouraging me to think carefully.
