    technically these are illegal.
RM is clamping down on this so expect your buyer/recipient to end up paying postage+£1
not good for a business seller. i do enjoy my arguments at the countert for the charge though ;)

If the stamps are not franked how will the royal mail know they have been reused??

they are often stuck on quite obviously plus any franking marks or defaced stamps.
RM are becoming more and more aggresive on this and will charge any item thought to be underpaid.
it would be down to the sender ot prove they did pay postage.
im probably taking around £300 a day in charges for underpaid items just now.
this includes underpaid,no postage and unofficial redirections.
when the new machines are fully implemented then this will increase massivly

What's the value of the stamps that fall off the packages and have to get swept up from under the machines periodically? ;)

lol, wouldnt even be worth the work :D
charges are going up and up.
the more RM charge the more work is involved in dealing with these charges but going on £300 a day charges you can see why they are keen to keep doing it!

learn the cost of postage or pay up is the message.
i have daily arguments over this.its my fault the sender didnt put a stamp on ;)

    Is this charged for?

Our incompetent postman posts the wrong mail to us all the time, just cross it out and put it back in the post. Never heard it cost money

how do you expect RM to implement that?
they have a duty ot attempt delivery on the item.(even without payment)
the recipient is given the option to pay and recieve the item.
if the refuse then its returned to sender and the sender is charged.

its up to the recipient if they want the item and whether they chase the sender for cash.
how would you charge millions of xmas cards with no stamp for example?
how many people put a return address?
would you prefer RM just to destroy them?

end of the day the charges are no secret and all it takes is sufficient postage
many items are still getting through due to manual sorting so as more mechanical mail comes through then this will increase.
  • I do not know what the answer is, but that's a problem for RM, it is still a cheek to demand money from an innocent thrid party and then ask them to do RMs job by getting the money from the sender. As a recipient you probably have little choice but to accept it as you have no way of knowing what it is until you pay up and get it.

Anyway that gives a nice way for RM to increase their profits, just get the staff to send out lots of empty envelopes to random addresses then you can collect the fines when you deliver the letters.:D:D
