Adapter to use monitor

After I purchased a refurbished HP 8200 Elite SFF, which was older than the desktop it replaced, I have been unable to use my HP2211x monitor because the connector thing is different.
Is there something I can buy so that I can use it again, as it is far superior to the smaller monitor that was supplied with the refurbished desktop?

You can just use the VGA connection.2

Isn't VGA a wee bit archaic now?1

The HP 2211x monitor has a strange connector with two square blocks of nine small pins and one flat pin on the side with two screws that you tighten and an AC/DC adapter with the electric kettle type plug in it on one side.
I am not too sure about the older monitor that I want to replace, except that it also has a similar looking connector but with I think three lines of pins and again with two screws to hold it in place.
Sorry it sounds a bit muddled.

Sorry it sounds a bit muddled.Scroll down to the connector section and find yours on the monitor you want to use. Get a cable with that on one end and DisplayPort on the other.2 -

The monitor has both VGA & DVI-D. So you can use either VGA to VGA or DisplayPort to DVI-D using the adaptor in my link and your existing DVI-D cable. I write 'existing' as otherwise you must have connected via VGA before if you don't have an existing DVI-D cable.
Is how it should look at the back of the monitor. The adapter is attached to the PC's DisplayPort and to the other end of the DVI-D cable.1 -
Thank you, the back of the computer looks like it would need a 15 pin plug i.e. 3 straight rows of 5 - if that makes any sense.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

Your computer has these:1 DisplayPort1 VGA video...DVI output available via optional DisplayPort to DVI adapter
So you need a display port to DVI-D adapter as suggested earlier. Those are commonly available in an ordinary looking cable.Pictures of the various types are available at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_connectors .
This cable in whatever length option you need should do the job for you:

Don't be put off by the word basic, as they use it it just means without unnecessary frills but gets the job done, with an excellent returns policy if it doesn't work even though it should.1 -
