    I had just downloaded some new pics from my camera and it asked if I wanted to delete originals and I clicked yes.
     I have done this many times and it just deleted pics from my camera.

    This time though,  a table appeared on screen with the green thing going across deleting. I tried stopping it but it went so fast and then found everything gone.
    The funny thing is, it left some of the actual folders and just took the pics but has not touched similar folders.
    I have looked everywhere and can't  find anything.

    Try an app such as Recuva to see if it can find the deleted files. (Often when files are deleted they still exist and it's just the file headers that are removed). Try a portable version on a USB drive - you don't want to install anything on your PC disk in case it overwrites any of the "deleted" files.

    You can use qphotorec to recover your pics if Recuva doesn't retrieve everything. You can run either from a Flash Drive and choose for it to save the found pics on the same drive or another. As aforementioned try to not run or save anything to the drive from which you hope to retrieve the files. You can almost certainly get them all back if you follow those simple instructions.

    1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Create a restore point, and select it from the list of results.

    2. On the System Protection tab in System Properties, select Create.

    3. Type a description for the restore point, and then select Create > OK

    Two things come to mind.
    Firstly, if you go into Windows settings (cog displayed when you click on the windows logo), and then go to "system", you should see "storage" on the left hand side menu. Click on that for information about which files are taking up most storage on your hard drive. That should give you confirmation or otherwise that your pictures have definitely disappeared.
    Secondly, if they have gone for certain, there is a feature listed in my program list entitled "Windows File recovery". I have never used this feature myself, but it may be worth pursuing to see whether this can resolve your issue before you resort to third party software or other alternative options

    Indeed...definitely worth a try in the first instance: https://www.cleverfiles.com/howto/recover-deleted-files-windows10.html

    @Ganga

    Why do you think you need to manually create a restore point? Windows automatically creates one whenever system files are changed eg when software, drivers and windows updates are installed. It also does a weekly one automatically.

    The only reason you’d need to manually create a restore point is if you are tampering with the system files and configuration yourself.

    System restore is not a backup of your user files and is not a substitute for one - far more important to have a separate backup of user files - do you have one?
  • For anyone interested in chapter and verse on "system restore", the following link is quite instructive and endorses in many respects what previous posters have stated.
