FAO electric car owners - an observation

1, Frunks/Froots, a side charging port allows for this extra storage space (even if it isn’t useful it looks better on a spec sheet)
2, ICE Platforms, shoving batteries into an ICE platform means that the fuel filler cap needs a use
3, Maybe ‘premium’ manufacturers come up with their own port positioning for ‘individuality’ and ‘cheaper’ manufacturers just use side ports for ease (I think of the VW Group’s EVs here)
The manufacturers are looking forward to selling lots of damaged charging port flaps.0 -

It was meant as written, against ICE owners that crave familiarity so badly it would make them feel better to have a side port.JamoLew said:Quite happy with my pathetic ICE thanks that can do 500+miles on a single refuel and can then do another 500 if required with a quick 5min refuel ad infinitum
using language like that isnt likely to endear people to your crusade or point of view
IMO that's a bit pathetic. What evidence do you have that ICE owners "crave familiarity" so badly?I seriously doubt if anyone really cares as much as you seem to and I'd suggest your ire would be better directed at the marketing departments of EV manufacturers.I think most ICE drivers would prefer a filler cap on the back/front of the car, so they aren't tied to using a particular side of a petrol pump without risking damaging paint or not being able to reach.Neither seems like an issue with an EV because you could always just get a longer cable.0 -
No more or less practical reason for the connection being on the front nose.BOWFER said:

None.
I was hypothesising as there doesn't seem to be any practical reason for it.1 -

I do love going to the garage to find people queing two or more cars deep when all the other side spaces are unused! Hopefully they hang their heads in shame when they see me refuel from the "wrong" side. (does not happen as much anymore as the "right" side for me is now the less common left side, but it does silly on rare occasions).

This was discussed on here not so long ago, and there were comments like "it scratches the paint" and "the hose is heavy"Carrot007 said:Herzlos said:I think most ICE drivers would prefer a filler cap on the back/front of the car, so they aren't tied to using a particular side of a petrol pump without risking damaging paint or not being able to reach.Which is not an issue if you know the side and park appropriately anyway. FWIW I do the same too, without arms like Arnie and without scratching my paint.1 -
A real non issue this. There is no familiarity with side ports cos the sides varies from vehicle to vehicle even within the same brand. And a vehicle in charge can be seen on charge to the casual observer, even if that means they need to change their viewpoint slightly. Plus trailing leads give the game away. And an EV parked up on a driveway, fairly safe to assume it's belongs to the homeowner and they have a home charging set up. This shouldn't concern anyone.0
