Electric 2CV

Getting back to the point of the the thread, there's a growing cottage industry in people converting classic cars to EVs.
Like one twitter post I saw yesterday, an ancient Land rover that can now do 0-60 in 4 seconds.
As much as I love electric cars, i don't get this aspect of it at all.

I can sort of see it happening, Renault have resurrected the 5 (as a concept) and of course there’s the little Ami, so it wouldn’t be such a long shot to remake the 2CV and pull on Citroen’s heritage. I do love the 2CV and smile when I see one (which is rare these days) and hope it is remade (but done well).1

I really miss our 2CV - back in the 1970s we used to drive from London to Plymouth via the A303 - we used to urge it up and over Salisbury Plain by rocking forwards and backwards as we crawled up the hills. Happy days! You could take all 3 seats out (the rear seat was a bench seat) to have a picnic. The doors clipped off (and rattled in the wind, because they were hinged at the back). The roof was optional too. I NEVER got the hang of the dashboard gate gear change. My husband has just pointed out that the weight of the batteries for an EV would make the whole concept very boring!.....#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

Great story, the point about battery weight is interesting, maybe when we get solid state batteries it could help the idea?JGB1955 said:I really miss our 2CV - back in the 1970s we used to drive from London to Plymouth via the A303 - we used to urge it up and over Salisbury Plain by rocking forwards and backwards as we crawled up the hills. Lightweight with batteries?Deleted_User said:Would this not a good move - if Citroen were to produce such a lightweight car, with soft suspension for short distance town driving?1 -
Most of the 2CV's were made of plywood if I remember correctly.

Renault have mocked up an electric Renault 4 https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/renault/354670/new-renault-4-shapes-join-electric-car-range
The R4 was far more popular than the 2CV ever was, plus the Citroen was a bit of an embarrassment to the French, they didn't really like working in the factory, that was staffed by mainly immigrant workers.
If any classic Citroen needs an electric convertion, surely it has to be the DS.
It looked like it came from the far reaches of our galaxy in 1955 and it still looks super cool today.
