as for the OP, if its a leak IMO it should be covered

So a random stone popped a pipe and it should be covered? It is not covered becuase naything that can go wrong is either a random occurance or user error.

I agree, no need for air conditioning in the summer...but there again I do have a convertible.

I bought a convertible MGB when I had my mid-life crisis, trying to relive my 20s when I had an MG midget with just a tonneau cover as my daily driver, right through Winter.

Then I realised how truly awful it is to breathe in all that pollen and carcinogenic exhaust fumes, and worse, feeling the cancer giving rays of The Sun stripping my flesh away and turning it to leather :)
    It had to go.....

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

    Think about it.
Pressurised system and it has a leak, so it loses pressure. So you would never get a vacuum in a system that has a leak, as it will be drawing in air from outside. 👍

Works for big holes but the system has seals that are pushed out by pressure and let past, a vacuum pulls the seal back in and seals the leak, many leaks are "one way".  A pressurised system should always be tested under pressure and a proper air con engineer does it that way.

I don't get it. Everyone on this forum seems obsessed with having a car under warranty so you don't get unexpected bills but then you get unexpected bills.

And you get to your destination all sweaty and frustrated, what you doing with the money you save?
That's some wonky logic. Not leaving it permanently on doesn't mean never using it. I'll turn the aircon on whenever the car starts to get uncomfortably hot, where passive cooling methods don't work. I'll also use it where necessary to clear the windscreen and othewise ensure I run it for a few minutes every few days. That's a big difference in comparison to leaving it permanently on.

If aircon is not used frequently, then the seals dry and allow the refrigerant gas to escape. This is not a manufacturing fault, so is not a warranty claim.

There is no reason to turn it off. Leave it on.
The reason to turn it off is all the extra power it uses. It can reduce my range by 10 miles (or ultimately increase my charging costs by 5%) if I just leave it on permanently.
Then you need to decide if that saving is worth the potential to have to spend £££s down the line to get your aircon working if it fails.

I'm not certain that running the aircon permanently is better for it than using it with discretion. I'm fairly sure my entire HVAC system is covered for a portion of the 7 year warranty; eith 2 or 3 years off the top of my head. It might be longer because it's integral to the battery cooling.

In any case, the savings are part of the overall low cost of running an EV which is what enabled me to buy one in the first place.
Are you one of those that opens their windows rather than use A/C?  If so, the drag created uses more energy than using the aircon.

So if you drop your phone in a puddle and it stops working you think that you should get s free replacement?

As crazy as that seems, there are people that think this is a perfectly reasonable expectation.  I used to manage a phone store and I had to call shopping centre security because someone kicked off because I wouldn't replace their phone bought 364 days previously that had been dropped down a toilet.  When I told them that a repair would be chargeable and unlikely to solve the fault they were livid.

The OP didn't mention that they had dropped their Aircon down the toilet. Sounds unlikely.

Sounds like he bought a car with a warranty and thought it would be useful.
