Depends on how complex the estate is. It could be a couple of months or it could take decades.2

Yes I am buying a probate property. Probate was applied for mid February and was granted in second week of May, no issues raised, so around 11-12 weeks. Your solicitor won't be able to prepare the transfer deed until it is granted and they have to have seen it so add on a few weeks for paper work to be received, prepared, signed and returned for completion.1

Thanks, all I know is the vendors daughter lives overseas, she’s the only beneficiary, the solicitors is waiting to receive the will which he will then send paperwork out for her to sign then when returned he will apply for probate, there have been a few bank holidays where she lives so there have been a little hold up, EA have said he’s seen will and it don’t look overly complicated so hoping it won’t be to long0

People react differently to bereavement. In some cases people sort out all of the paperwork and get the process started promptly. Others are knocked for six and take ages getting the information together.Someone will have to sort out the assets of the deceased getting information from banks, etc.; it is more than dealing with the house. If someone is trying to do this from abroad it could be long drawn out.1

My brother died December, intestate. Solicitor engaged promptly, me & sister v v v likely executors, no arguements. Still awaiting likely grant of probate date , we understand there is an overall set of delays due to covid19, Brex**it etc etc
Nothing to be done.
(Plus delays in clearing house what with covid, 385 mile round trips etc. And an imPRUDENT equity release clicking up extortionate charges)0 -
Yes. Probate applied for in March and we are still waiting. Hearing that there is a big backlog.0

Complexity isn't in the will. More in determining the assets and liabilities of the estate in order to apply for probate. Not everyone's record keeping is that good. Wading through paperwork is a time consuming business.Cookie211 said:Thanks, all I know is the vendors daughter lives overseas, she’s the only beneficiary, the solicitors is waiting to receive the will which he will then send paperwork out for her to sign then when returned he will apply for probate, there have been a few bank holidays where she lives so there have been a little hold up, EA have said he’s seen will and it don’t look overly complicated so hoping it won’t be to long1 -
So you're not actually waiting for probate to be granted as it hasn't even been applied for yet. I hope you aren't in any hurry.2

Probate for the house we are buying was applied for in the first week of March. We are still waiting.0

Marketing the property (and getting as far as finding a buyer) before anybody's even engaged with the Will doesn't sound too promising - let's hope it's actually as straightforward as they're obviously assuming...1
