There is no ban. It is just guidance and asking people not to travel if not essential.

Exactly, I can't see what the OP is panicking about.

What support do you cite for that?  The legislation mandating the restrictions was quoted on the previous page ("A person who lives in a place within the common travel area mentioned in paragraph 4 [such as Bolton] must not enter or remain in Scotland")....

Believe me no one up here takes any of her diktats seriously anymore.
It's unnecessary and more importantly unenforceable unless you have an inkling how ?

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with your opinions but am discussing the facts here, i.e. legislation versus guidance, rather than enforcement, etc....

There is no ban in England as clarified in parliament today.

Sure, but OP's ability to leave Bolton lawfully is irrelevant when they're prohibited from travelling to Scotland by the legislation there, which is what this thread has been all about!

Thanks to everyone who posted. Just a quick update to say that I spoke with the venue's owner directly and he kindly agreed to give us a full refund.

I'm still not 100% whether the travel ban is legally enforceable, however, given it was supposed to be a family holiday I didn't want to be worrying about it, or the possibility of having to go back home from Scotland with 2 young children!

In the end we booked somewhere in England instead!

Good result for you, even if it increases the risk of spreading the virus around England instead of Scotland!
