Exactly - you are right. I have also checked the warranty that comes with the purchase which says to be valid car has to be serviced in line with manufacturers schedule. So my fear is if something goes wrong they could use it against me…0

How did you pay for the carwas it cash, credit card or finance this is important as you may have rights also if it is via finance then get the the owners invloved (finance company) as they may be able to get a result for youin terms of the cambelt you need to know when its due to be changed ie not miles but time as rubber deteriorates over time and so do the parts than need to be changed such as tensioners and idlers so you may have not reached the miles but you may have reached the timei have done a cambelt on a golf a few days ago which was due to time and not miles its a lot cheaper than buying a new engine
“People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

as far as I can see I have a 14 day return policy which I am hoping means what it says.
If your purchase is covered under the remote purchase rules, that is definitely the case. As you collected in person, I suspect the distance selling rules won't apply.
However the return policy works, if you had a trade in, then expect that to be gone and at best you can get the value back that was on the paperwork for the trade in.
What exactly does the "14-day return policy" say in the T's&C's? Often it is not a return for cash refund but return for exchange to another vehicle. Potentially, you might be willing to accept another identical vehicle, but with the proper "full service at main dealers as per manufacturer's schedule"?
Sadly, this issue comes up regularly of "Full Service History".
Does it mean "the car has a full history of (main-dealer) servicing to the manufacturer's schedule"? This is what I think most car purchasers reasonably expect.
Or does it mean "full history of all the servicing done to the car even if that is none"? I do not think many people would use this interpretation, but some dealers seem to be trying it on.
For once, I agree with Fred:fred246 said:Take it straight back to the crooks and demand your money back as soon as possible.0 -

Most vehicles these days come with long warranty periods but in the days of 12 month warranty a manufacturer would honour the repair in case of failure before the 5 yr/mileage limit. As for the FSH what does the manufacturer specify? I have never heard of when somebody feels like it

The nefarious bandits car dealers will always use a ‘deficient service history’ as a bargaining- tool to beat you with when negotiating the price they offer when purchasing a car, in part-exchange for example.
They consider the ‘Service History’ (partial or full) to be an important issue when they decide how much cash to shell out when buying a vehicle;... strange how an advertised ‘Full Service History’ suddenly loses its importance and meaning after a customer has uncovered their deviousness and complained about it‽
To mis-quote Stephen Fry, used car dealers, ...”twist and turn....like twisty-turny things”
