Single lady here and naive in car purchasing. Paid for a car and collected today from a large national retailer of cars. Advertised as full service history. I wouldn’t have entertained if not. When i collected i found no service book but told it was all “online” now. (Audi)
anyway 7 year old car has been serviced at 12k which was 5 years ago and no proof of anything since. Dealer says “personal preference” dictates service schedule!?!
I like the car but having paid for it in full and now home and realise only proof is one service 5 years ago and the one service that the dealer we bought it from did last week.
anyone got any advice? Would you accept or would you return car - or negotiate reduction? Feel disappointed. Full service history surely can’t mean “personal preference when to do so”?

Well, it sounds like you've been given the full history of when it's been serviced...
How many miles since the last service?0 -
The car is not as advertised. You can reject it (ASAP) - you’ll have to take it back when they are next open.
When was the cam belt last changed?
What is the mileage now?
The purchase price was based on full service history. Without that it is worth less.
Hopefully you paid the deposit on a credit card.0 -

Full service history means nothing. The book (that yes mostly no longer exists) even less. You interprited FSH as serviced every year (ot hey maybe 2), they interprited as telling you when it was serviced. The time to look into this and what it means is before purchase. As asdvertised IMO as the phrase means nothing. Go argue and see if you can return. I would. I would however also have read it before purchase to see what it meant.1

Thanks everyone.
so serviced at 12000 miles five years ago: it’s now done 42k and the dealer hadn’t provided me with anything in between and says it’s personal preference.
audi won’t advice if it’s been serviced since the 12k service as I don’t have the log book to prove ownership.0 -
Asked about cam belt - was told at 42k it didn’t need doing and so they wouldn’t do it.0

Now 5 years seems harsh to me for quality parts. 10 years is copmmon on some. However telling you becuase of milage only probably means incompetance. There is alwaysa a miles or years part. And it's not either, it's what comes first. But again time to find out is before purchase and knowing that a quick google.

I am not so worried about cambelt - I am happy to get that done in time. it’s the “full service history” and what that means “officially” so that I can return the car.
this is not being done lightly - it’s a 7 hour round trip. 🙄0 -

We had our last car's cam belt changed at 5 years even with low mileage. Cheaper than a whole new engine.0
