S_uk said:I was wondering how much Christmas stuff you have seen in your local Lidl store? Mine has some mince pies and I think it was lebkuchen, but not much else. When I went shopping today I was hoping they might have had the stollen/stollen bites, Xmas puds and flavoured crisps in stores by now like some other supermarkets.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Stollen bites definitely in Aldi, bought some yesterday. 😋0

Stollen bites in my Aldi too. I got a pack of the apple ones for a change and they're yummy. Himself prefers them to the normal ones, but I prefer the marzipan middle ones. He has such a sweet tooth though so that's prolly a factor in that. I'd lift a pack if I couldn't get the normal ones but I wouldn't go out of my way looking for them.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1

^^ None of the above for me this year. Although delicious they are bad for me but ultimately its the cost that puts me off. If they were 99p instead of ?£3 I would probably stick one in my basket with every shop.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I feel rather pleased to have happened across a new Aldi in Coventry which can be found in the retail park by the station. It opened just last week and is obviously very popular with families as by the time I got there this evening much of the fruit had gone and a lot of the salads were discounted 30-50%. I have to say they have picked a winning location, its a population dense area full of young families and students with an M&S SImply Food and Sainsburys Local close to hand. At the other end of the scale there are multiple convenience stores, but large and affordable supermarkets are largely spaced outside of the ringroad.
The lady that served me was absolutely lovely, really humble and took and obvious pride in her work. With CS like this I wonder why I ever bother with the big 4.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

"really humble"? That is a strange description. Is that what checkout operators should aspire to?2

Bored maybe.
But not snooty.
And not humble either.
I'd just like them to be efficient and pleasant, even if it's just a smile.
Chatty if they feel like it.
I often talk back to the self service tills and make the assistants laugh.
I was once in a queue behind a very smartly dressed lady and gent who had several bottles of good champagne, smoked salmon and other goodies.
The assistant put everything through without a smile or comment and I remarked that looks like a pretty good party'.
She smiled and was waiting for me when I'd paid for my few items and told me her daughter had got married in secret and they were having a small get-together to celebrate.
She said 'Thanks for your comment, I'm so excited I could burst'.
I think I made her day.

Having been on the other side of the till I learned how nice it was when someone recognised that you were a person and not just a tool that let them leave the shop without being arrested. The number of people who were out and out rude shocked me and made me determined to never be that nasty. But the other side of this is I don't take kindly when someone in a shop acts like an idiot and is dismissive/nasty to customers who are helping them stay employed. I wonder how many of these idiots have led to the prevalence of self service tills - get rid of the idiots and get rid of customer complaints about said idiots. (and reduce costs and increase shareholder dividends too of course.)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
