Is it just my local Aldi or countrywide?

As Longwater says, it;s so they can be recycled more easily and is being introduced in many places

Aldi basic mozarella is no way near as nice a product as Lidl's equivalent, even though they appear to be the same thing.

Lidl frozen sardines for dinner last night.  Thawed, coated in olive oil and a good dose of sea salt and on to the bbq.  Lovely!! Warning for the squeamish - they are whole sardines.  So head, tail, bones, innards.  Easy to fillet after cooking but it can put some people off.

Afters was the frozen oranges also from Lidl.  Full of citrus sorbet.  Perfect at the end of a hot hot day!!

Likely having their flammekuchen and escargot this evening if OH gets out to find us a baguette (probably at Lidl....)

I can second their frozen orange sorbets - very refreshing and properly orangey :yum:

I think they are about the same- certainly haven't thought 'why did I buy these??'
You do have to hunt for the different sizes- as usual mixed cases and maybe piled high instore!

There's a fairly big Lidl on husband's route between work and home. He calls in on Thursdays if there are any suitable offers.

He vacuumed up Deluxe Parmigiano Reggiano 200g for 3.59 any time he saw it, until we discovered that the Tesco own brand is 3.40 for 200g.

Other things we have tried are the Seia cheese, Sol & Mar mixed frozen seafood, various olive oils, olives, artichokes, stuffed vine leaves, Cretan honey, Halloumi and Manouri cheeses.

We treat Lidl like a deli.
