When I was at Aldi earlier, I noticed scanners on the tills similar to the loyalty scanners in Lidl.   I wonder if an Aldi loyalty scheme is on the way?

Probably, in view of the denial in June:

  • Aldi is running a national competition - submit 250 words and you could be in with a chance of winning a £5k spend instore.

I tried new recipe Lidl dark chocolate yesterday btw, its good enough but the days of the 30p bar are well and truly over (which on balance is probably a good thing). Interestingly neither of the milk not white chocolate bars were in stock.

So much to read, so little time.

For those that love Branston Pickle, just tried Batts Sweet Pickle from Lidl and is almost indistinguishable from Branston's. It's very good. I tried Aldi's a couple of years ago and did not like it and assumed this would be the same. It costs £1.19 for a 360g jar versus £2.10 for Branston's at Tesco.
hmmm.  I've tried some of the Batts stuff but haven't been impressed.  Likely I wouldn't notice the difference if it was in a Branston jar.....

My local Aldi this morning had loads of bananas, however they were all banded bunches with no separate 16p each ones available. I hope they haven't removed that ability to buy just one or two at a time, and it's just a supply issue. Asked in store but staff didn't know.

can you just take one of the bananas?  sometimes this works well when something individual has sold out but the "multipacks" haven't.

I shouldn't think so, they are banded with a bar coded sticky back paper wrapper, also no 16p shelf sticker displayed.
