Suggestions for new laptop?

    I'd set out some essential requirements, eg.
    • a screen resolution of at least 1920x1080,
    • a screen size of 15" (though you say your current 14" is fine),
    • enough storage for your needs (text documents vs video rips and your music collection),
    • you've already said not gaming (so that lowers the cpu/graphics/memory),
    • portability (will you take it to lectures?),
    • etc.
    If you're looking at the MS packages, Universities typically have a cheap-as-chips student deal going; indeed, they may have student deals going for laptops too. It might be worth checking that out before buying on the high street.
