...you were in an area that will have been marked as possibly containing fixed or mobile cameras, as per the legal requirement, so weren't paying attention.....
Perhaps you could point us to the authority that makes it a legal requirement to advertise the presence of cameras.0 -

You've been a chancer, you've been unobservant, you've been caught, deal with it.
Please don't take this is a holier-than-thou post, I regularly break speed limits out of town and often reach speeds that would have me instantly banned.
I accept the risk, yet I have a clean licence and have done for years.
Don't tell me it's luck, that's an abstract construct - joo-joo, bunkum.
It's called being aware of my surroundings, looking ahead and being aware of where it's likely police would/could sit.
I cringe every time my F-i-L drives us anywhere; for him entering a 30 zone is an invitation to start letting the speed gradually reduce, despite having been done twice for exactly that.0 -

Our local paper gives a list of where the mobile cameras will be each week. People still get caught speeding.1

Or perhaps don't 'have' to be, but are.
But the signs become white noise to people, they don't see a van for months and they forget.0 -
Well I certainly didn’t expect some of the comments I’ve received here from people who seem to think they are holier than thou and those saying just take it on the chin and you broke the law so deal with it. I want to say again that he has accepted and declared he was the driver which is why he got the FPN, he isn’t trying to get out of it in any way, HOWEVER, he wanted to pay the fine AND do the course, it’s that simple!!! Not pay the fine and get the points!! It’s his choice, he simply made a mistake when he made that choice. I can’t believe so many people on here don’t get that! This has been my first and last post on here about anything, I genuinely thought i would receive understanding, helpful comments from people who knew what I was talking about. I certainly didn’t expect these kind of responses! Wow! Lockdown has a lot more to answer for I think. And to add, I’m still no further forward as surely there’s a way to reverse your choice of options without being bluntly told that no, once you’ve chosen (whether it be right or wrong) that’s it, accept it!0

He wouldn't have been given the choice of FPN or course until after he sent it back saying "Yep, it was me".
If the person who admitted it was already on 9pts, the FPN would not be an option.
If the person who admitted it had taken a course in the last three years, the course would not be an option.HOWEVER, he wanted to pay the fine AND do the course, it’s that simple!!! Not pay the fine and get the points!! It’s his choice, he simply made a mistake when he made that choice.
Yes, he did.
But that's not a mistake that can be withdrawn. He turned down the offer of the course, and chose the FPN. He has every right to do so, and he did.
This is the bit you seem unwilling to accept.I can’t believe so many people on here don’t get that!
You appear to be shooting the messenger.I genuinely thought i would receive understanding, helpful comments from people who knew what I was talking about.
You got those. You shouted at them, too, because they weren't the answers you wanted.I’m still no further forward as surely there’s a way to reverse your choice of options without being bluntly told that no, once you’ve chosen (whether it be right or wrong) that’s it, accept it!
Nope, that is the situation.
They did not have to offer the course in the first place, and he was under no obligation to accept it when they did.
Some people simply find the 3pts less of an issue than spending half a day of their time. Such is their prerogative.1 -
Adrian C, I think that you think you know what you’re talking about but on this occasion, you don’t! As I have said time and time over, I’ll explain it in a step by step process for you, he was caught by a man with a speed camera, just past the brow of a hill and right before a 30mph zone, and therefore he received a letter asking him to declare he was the driver as the car registration informed the police that he was the driver. He admitted he was the driver then received another letter saying he had the choice of attending a course and paying a fine, OR paying a fine and accepting g three points. Now this is where it gets complicated for you, when he rang the number to make his choice of options, he actually pressed number 2, instead of 1, and actually went through the process then realised he’d made a mistake, but by then he was too late!! I mean you must never have made a mistake in your life to say the things you come out with, however I’ll forgive you for being perfect. Now, my question originally was does anyone know who he could speak to (he’s already spoken to the police and visited the police station where the notice came from) in the hope that he could start the process again and pay the fine and go on the course! I hope that explaining this is intricate detail, will help you understand. It was a simple question you know!0
