Booked a holiday but don't want to go

I booked a holiday back in 2019. It's our first major family holiday which is expensive to us. Due to covid we had to pay to move our holiday to 2021 which was about 600. Now with traveling abroad now opening and our destination on the amber list me and especially my wife do not feel comfortable traveling because of the covid epidemic. I would like to move it till next year but it will end up having to pay more money into the money pit it's already turned out to be. My options are 1. wait and see then and with any luck our package holiday will be cancelled. Problem is by then it is already to late if things go ahead. 2. Move the holiday having to pay more money which I can't afford or 3. Cancel the holiday and lose the money / deposit. I feel like I am at the mercy of Jet2. Any advice would be great but I feel like I am at a lost here. I will be ringing them up tomorrow to discuss my choices.

Not the ideal situation but it sounds like they have explained the only valid options available to you and it's a decision only you can make. You don't say when your holiday is or where you are travelling to? Things are changing all the time so it may be worth waiting a while to see if the country comes off the amber list.0

Sorry, it's Tenerife and it's on July 25th. True, things are changing but with all this horror going on in other countries it just feels like such a risk. You just couldn't relax.Upsidedownandaround said:Not the ideal situation but it sounds like they have explained the only valid options available to you and it's a decision only you can make. You don't say when your holiday is or where you are travelling to? Your options are as you outlined in your 1st post. If you honestly don’t think you want to travel this year you either gamble on holiday being cancelled , and with 2 months to go and Spain apparently encouraging UK travellers that might not pay off, pay to move to 2022 or cancel. If you do cancel make sure you read exactly what you are due to pay in case you were on any form of low deposit offer.tdsmithj said:

Your only real option is to move it to next year or cancel and lose money. As it’s May now and departure is July you are very close if not into the further cancellation charges brackets now aswell as deposit.
Its very much all crystal ball but personally I think there’s a good chance it will go ahead.
Exact charges and exact timeframes can be found on the Jet2 website.
If you really want to cancel I would do this as soon as certainly do not risk waiting any longer.0 -
A quick Google is showing me you’re at 69 days as of today for departure and first cut off with Jet2 is usually 70 days to lose deposit only. The next bracket which I fear you’re now in is losing 30%.So sorry to share that and hope you get some wiggle room.
If that was me personally I would start again, choose a fresh cheaper hotel/destination/departure for next year and move it. Take the partial refund of difference in price and then cancel next years if need be in plenty of time to only lose deposits if you still don’t want to go.
Good luck0 -
Jet2 have been very good with changes , done it myself to next year , although I'm not sure if they will refund without deduction nowEx forum ambassador

Good news I am 71 days till holiday not as I originally thought. Will see when I ring them this morning.0

Be ready though to have a clear idea which of the 3 options you want - getting through to some companies is difficult and as you are within a whisker of the 70 days once you get through you will have to make an immediate decision. If you opt to cancel then be mindful that you will almost certainly have to put that in action today, assuming you have calculated your timings correctly, you won't have time to go away and think about it and hope to get back through on the phone in time to cancel within the 70 days.tdsmithj said:Good news I am 71 days till holiday not as I originally thought. Also, I'm not sure you are 71 days away. If day 1 is tomorrow then you actually leave on day 69, you are out of time for just losing your lower deposit.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. i would give them a phone .I think they will transfer free of charge for holidays up to 18th July but might show some mercy of yours is 25th .you've got nothing to lose. if they don't then say you need more time to think about it.0

It is 71 days as my holiday started on the 27th. It was originally the 25th. I rang and got to someone straight away. It will cost 230 to rearrange a date or 490 to cancel. I decided to cancel and lose 490 as I don't even know what next year will bring. It is a bit unfair but I rather have piece of mind then to worry again if you things don't get better.soolin said:
