Booked a holiday but don't want to go

It's a hard decision and one that many people have had to face over the last 14 months.I had a holiday booked for June 2020 and opted to pay the balance in full around the end of March. As it turned out, it was cancelled by the tour operator and we used the booking incentive offered by TUI to defer it for a full year. The booking incentive covered the increase in price for 2021.We've since deferred it again to 2022 and had to pay a couple of hundred £ to cover the increase. We're happy that we made that decision. We also had a holiday booked for late August 2020 (also with Jet2) and opted to cancel and walk away from the £60 per person deposit. We were also happy that we made that decision. All you can do is what you think is best for you (which as you've already decided is to cancel and cut your losses).0

You need to ask yourself if it's also worth the stress of waiting to see if it gets cancelled and also the stress of booking elsewhere and which dates etc. Although it's a bummer to lose money it will give you great relief to lose the deposit and have the flexibility for when you're confident enough to go abroad again.0

Glad you made a decision you're comfortable with.
Personally I'd have moved it to as late a date into the future as possible, and dealt with it then.
Can completely understand you not wanting to book another just yet though. Last year we had daughter booked onto a drama summer school abroad. I was looking forward to her being with me and husband at the beginning and end of the hol, but it being just the two of us whilst she attended the drama residential. Fortunately though we hadn't got round to booking flights or accommodation. The drama school course got cancelled and though they wanted us to move it to next year, they gave us the refund we requested instead. So, now I have no hol booked for this year and am not interested in booking for next year either.0 -
I would have moved it to something that was nailed on to be cancelled. Ie brought it forward or moved it to Turkey.
But hey Ho I'm a gambler.0 -
We had our Tui 2020 holiday cancelled, and with their 20% incentive moved it to the same date in June this year at no extra cost. However, if it gets cancelled again, we shall probably have a refund unless it costs us no extra again. We tracked the price of our hotel all last year, and the price took a dive after October, which is when we’d only normally start looking for the following year. Tui must have made plenty of money from people paying a lot extra by moving their holiday dates. However, people have got to do what suits them best, and it’s a difficult decision.0

Yea I bet they have. I didn't want to spend anymore as it was just adding more and more on top of the cost of the holiday. Everything you do has a admin fee, even a cancellation has an admin fee. It make things do difficult that it doesn't make me want to go away. Even with a global pandemic they will still try and get money from you.0
