I normally just chuck everything into the porch when they deliver and then sort everything out once the driver has gone.

To each their own but I would not want one of those crates in our house.

Waitrose are the best for deliveries.   They bring the crate, knock on your door and go stand in the street so they are nowhere near you.  Ocado and Tesco are also good.

I think there has to be a bit of give and take here. The company has to keep its assets in the system, and whilst the driver should give adequate time to decant this is a simple transaction and should not involve waiting around for cupboards to be arranged. Drivers have time pressures too and if the system doesn't suit I'd find an alternative.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
  • I have either storage boxes or large bags ready. If the delivery is at my place I have a little hall area outside my flat front door where transfer takes place. Usually I do it myself with driver standing back. I tend to chat with them -general small talk like Do you come from xxx branch or yyy branch?
Asda drivers have offered to help transfer but Waitrose transferred before I even started so I let them carry on.
If click n collecting I just take my time even if others are waiting for collection spot as if I go too fast will injure myself.
  • Great idea. In fact our driver has started leaving the crates which makes total sense for repeating slots as it saves time and handling. We don't mind storing them until the next delivery. ASDA should make this an option when placing the order.

I had the same problem when i moved as the flat have now the kitchen on the other side of the flat, so i manage to get a foldable table and foldable bookcase and use the hallway as loading area to be as fast as my body let me. They are usually patient enough.
  • Most drivers I’ve dealt with recently have offered to help with the packing into my own bags which they never asked me before.
  • I am unwell with Covid this week and have made a large delivery order from Asda, nearly £200 worth of groceries, the first time I've used a supermarket delivery service in years. I wrote "contact free delivery please as we are isolating" in the notes section but I noticed that there isn't an option for it to come with bags, which I understand is their new environmental policy. What should I expect when the driver comes?

I heard the stuff comes in crates and I will need to unload them in the house and hand back the crates, which wouldn't normally be any issue for me. Just seems a little odd that I'll be touching and handing back crates that may get used later today. Is use of hand sanitiser/hand washing considered enough for contagion to be avoided? I have a fever, am coughing and sneezing a fair bit, I can't imagine they'd want their crates in my house for any length of time!

It depends on how helpful the driver is, but probably the easiest way is if you put bags/boxes just outside your door and he/she transfers everything. You do not have to open your door. If they aren't helpful then they stay at a distance while you do it. Then bring everything in after they've gone, at your own speed.

Deliveries if you’re self-isolating or need a little help

We no longer provide carrier bags for deliveries. So, to ensure your delivery is as safe and friendly as possible, if you’re shielding, vulnerable, or you just need a little extra help – you can leave reusable bags or boxes at the door for the driver to transfer and pack your shopping into. If you need this additional assistance, please let us know in the delivery notes section before you checkout your order so our drivers are aware ahead of your delivery.
