REFUND help needed. Ripped off for the Monaco Grand Prix 2020/2021 (merged)

In fairness to them they could direct the exact same back at you. They have done what you asked of them as your agent. Travel restrictions aren’t their fault as much as they aren’t your fault yet you expect them to take the financial hit rather than you even though these are not the terms you agreed to when you entered the contract. 

Pandemic or no pandemic not being able to attend an event you have booked is always a risk and always would have been a risk you would have been liable for. That is why appropriate insurance cover should be bought.

OP can still go, but might have to drive of fly via other airports. But as there has been no decision on spectators yet, is a big risk.
Then will have to isolate as per covid guidelines on returns.

From Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 May, the Principality of Monaco remains accessible to everyone, even if you are not attending the Formula Grand-Prix. It will therefore be possible to come shopping or visit one of the museums.

However, to access the national territory, you must have a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours unless you are an employee, school, student in Monaco or a national of the Alpes-Maritimes or Var and your stay in Monaco is less than 24 hours.

When the pandemic first hit and the race was cancelled in 2020, I wasn’t given an option for a refund, the company instead automatically transferred my booking over to 2021, no questions asked and without having any discussion with myself.  I know now I should of contested this more but with everything else going on during that time and not being able to get a hold of members of staff so easily to discuss further thus leads me to the situation I am in now.  The official Automobile Club (this year) offered me a full refund or a transfer to the 2022 race due to the event not being able to operate on a full capacity basis for spectators.  I have also been informed by the venue my hospitality package is booked at that they will also be operating with minimal attendees compared to the normal amount of people they have at the venue so I’m assuming some customers will have the option of transfers/refunds?  As for my holiday insurance cover, I booked this making sure I mainly had my flights and accommodation 💯 covered, I didn’t foresee a pandemic happening #anotherlessonlearnt. Thank you to those who have tried to help in a non-judgemental way, it’s appreciated.
