We’d like to remind Forumites to please avoid political debate on the Forum.
This is to keep it a safe and useful space for MoneySaving discussions. Threads that are – or become – political in nature may be removed in line with the Forum’s rules. Thank you for your understanding.
PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

Sure. From the 'Debate House Prices' board...BikingBud said:
Perhaps you could enlighten us about the rules that were broken and the conduct that was considered unacceptable. We’re struggling at the moment with the huge volumes of messages we’re getting from Forumites about coronavirus and the impact it’s having on their finances. We’re a small team and we’re doing our best to manage this spike in demand. As a result, we’ve reluctantly decided to temporarily close the Debate House Prices & the Economy Board so that we can redirect our limited resources to those who need us most at this time.
Please do not post content intended for this board elsewhere in the forum – we appreciate your help and understanding during this exceptionally difficult time. It goes without saying, we hope to get back to full business as soon as possible!5 -
@Slithery - Is that you surmising or is that the site's official position?Slithery said:

Why is this still live https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6265306/do-we-expect-a-slow-down/p1 then?
As Soon as Possible - Nothing posted on that board since Mar 2020 over 14 months ago!
It would be better and more transparent if they confirmed that they decided that they did not wish to support discussion about the most significant financial commitment that most people ever make. Moreover all those threads have been closed and locked but have not been removed. Again if the subject thread was going off course the site could apply a measured response and not go for the totalitarian approach.Your life is too short to be unhappy 5 days a week in exchange for 2 days of freedom!0 -
Anybody would think that starting another thread that serves no real purpose on the forum is in itself obtuse.1

BikingBud said:Why is this still live https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6265306/do-we-expect-a-slow-down/p1 then?Because these forums have no moderators and they only take action when a thread is reported? But thanks for pointing that one out, I'll report it now...1

@Slithery isn’t surmising. That is literally what it says at the top of the Debate House Prices and the Economy board.BikingBud said:

Maybe it was an oversight.5 -
Things are approaching more of a normality in real life - but I wonder how the 'huge influx of coronavirus' enquiries is going now for the small team that run the boards. It would be nice to know how they're doing (even if they are extremely busy still).... A little update here and there wouldn't go amiss.0

It would be nice to know how they're doing (even if they are extremely busy still)....Some parts of that section are very quiet now, but there are probably quite a few legal ins and outs regarding pure legal and money matters to keep up with.On a personal level I'm wary of posting about matters involving Convid, having received warnings for reporting or saying things which conflict with the well-controlled government narrative. Anyone would think MSE was now an arm of the BBC, but they probably just want to avoid controversy as it tends to cause bad behaviour and isn't easily monetised.

Absolutely they can but a post saying why would be helpful. The house prices discussion board was closed over a year ago so many posters won't be aware of it or why.Slithery said:The thread was pulled because it broke the rules.
It's a privately run website, they can have whatever rules they wish regarding the content of posts.0 -

If you want to discuss such things with other conspiracy theorists then Quora may be the place for you; you can also discuss that 9/11 was a hoax, the U.S. election was rigged and the holocaust never happened. All bizarre and even distasteful discussions to me but each to their own.Davesnave said:On a personal level I'm wary of posting about matters involving Convid,

What makes you think I'm a conspiracy theorist or interested in the above?MobileSaver said:
