We’d like to remind Forumites to please avoid political debate on the Forum.
This is to keep it a safe and useful space for MoneySaving discussions. Threads that are – or become – political in nature may be removed in line with the Forum’s rules. Thank you for your understanding.
PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

As well as closing down the forum debating house prices the threads are getting stripped out! Why?
If individuals are breaking the breaking the forum rules treat that but do not inhibit overall discussion on something that is fundamental to moneysaving. House prices are integral to the economy and how people manage their limited resource in getting shelter is critical. Warnings should be given and repeat offenders should be blocked but the integrity of the appropriate and correct discussion should not be be dictated.

Yeah it's rubbish - they should open up the old sub-forum again. Segregating the discussion was always the best solution.6

I thought the discussion was interesting, and as you say something important to think about for money savers.1

The discussion should be mainstream, and polite, though? The discussion forum was created because of the level of non-polite "debate"?princeofpounds said:Yeah it's rubbish - they should open up the old sub-forum again. Segregating the discussion was always the best solution.0 -
Yes, looks the people not looking at buying at the moment got it shut down.
I am looking at buying at the moment, I have a new build lined up for next year, but I am still looking just in case anything else comes up sooner.
It got dragged of topic and turned into a bun fight.
Not sure why it was so controversial it could of happened, I could have updated it today.......but.😂0 -

As I said before address and advise/ warn the transgressors not the whole population. Sledgehammer to nut springs to mind. They've done the same thing with every other "discussion" subforum it seems. I think it's a bit of a cop-out, and some have alluded to it just using COVID as an excuse to shut these down as they tend to require much more moderation and they've basically decided they've had enough.Debate House Prices
We’re struggling at the moment with the huge volumes of messages we’re getting from Forumites about coronavirus and the impact it’s having on their finances. We’re a small team and we’re doing our best to manage this spike in demand. As a result, we’ve reluctantly decided to temporarily close the Debate House Prices & the Economy Board so that we can redirect our limited resources to those who need us most at this time.
Please do not post content intended for this board elsewhere in the forum – we appreciate your help and understanding during this exceptionally difficult time. It goes without saying, we hope to get back to full business as soon as possible!
