Waitrose introducing charges for home deliveries

I don't know if there are a lot of people like me, but I used to buy solely from Ocado because they had quality items from Waitrose. When they shifted to M&S the quality of products went downhill. So I would order from Waitrose and Ocado, both had free delivery, so I would just split my weekly shop between the two. Best of both worlds. Now that Waitrose have introduced delivery fee, I haven't ordered from them once. That's 7 weeks of lost custom from me and I do not intend to return. I hope they reconsider this as they see more and more people stop shopping with them.1

It's far more likely that the small margins on your seven weeks of shopping is more than offset by the delivery fees.
The loss of a few customers is factored into the model.2 -

I’ll still have the occasional Waitrose delivery, but far fewer than before, because Tesco deliveries cost me nothing (delivery pass paid for with points) and the prices are substantially lower.

My biggest problem with Waitrose is their sheer unreliability. We use Tesco mainly, because it's substantially cheaper than Waitrose, but whenever we do use Waitrose it's always full of substitutions and unavailable items.
Not good enough, Waitrose. You're expensive, you charge for delivery now, but you're just too unreliable for regular shopping.0 -

This is not my experience but I guess it depends on area and what you buy. I had a delivery yesterday and the only missing item was diced steak, but because it was on a good offer I'm not surpised it was out of stock

I think the store or centre your delivery comes from makes a difference (mine comes from Milngavie).
I also think the day of the week may affect it. I have a Tesco order at the moment. When I checked it yesterday (Sunday) there were numerous things unavailable; today nearly all of those things were back.

The benefit of waitrose over ocado is that you can specify when you don't want a substitute on a particular item, or you can add a note to an item.
For example, if I buy tonic water, I want the sweetener free (i.e. with sugar) own brand, and not a Schweppes/another substitute that has sweetners, and I won't drink as a result.

I was a delivery pass holder with Ocado and they let me down badly during the first lockdown. I'd say that Ocado has more special offers on real food than most other supermarkets and according to Bel UK it's now the only supermarket selling the black pepper Boursin. I don't like the M&S organic as much as Waitrose organic. My local Waitrose store doesn't have a huge variety of stuff.0

Soft cheese is also nice with caraway seeds mixed in.0
